Arsenal Well Prepared for EPL Title Defence

Arsenal ended their 22-year wait for the Premier League title last season and finished eight points ahead of Man City. Mikel Arteta’s side ended 2025/26 with a five-match winning streak in the Premier League, including three home victories.

The London team played most of pre-season without key players, including Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. They beat Girona 4-1, lost 3-1 to Real Betis and 3-2 to Borussia Dortmund and drew 1-1 with Como.

The Gunners fielded a strong lineup in the Community Shield on Sunday and thrashed Man City 3-0. Riccardo Calafiori scored after 26 seconds and Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard also found the net as Arsenal dominated with 2.16 XG.

Newly Promoted Coventry Have a Challenging Opener

Frank Lampard’s Coventry were promoted to the Premier League after winning the Championship last season. The Midlands outfit were the second-tier’s highest-scoring side with 97 goals in 46 games.

The Sky Blues started pre-season with a 0-0 stalemate against League Two opponents Northampton. Lampard’s side hit back by beating Espanyol 3-1.

Coventry completed their pre-season preparations with a 2-0 home victory against Monaco. Ellis Simms and Loum Tchaouna scored in the opening 32 minutes.

Defenders William Saliba and Jurrien Timber have long-term injuries and won’t play against Coventry.

Midfielder Declan Rice and attacker Bukayo Saka are in contention after returning to action against Man City.

Mikel Arteta revealed that Rice is ready to start against Coventry and said, “He will say that he wants to play 70 games this year if he can because he wants to go for everything.”

Midfielder Jack Rudoni and forward Ephron Mason-Clark could return for the Arsenal trip.

Frank Lampard explained that Rudoni is almost back to fitness after a shoulder issue and said, “He has had a difficult injury to come back from, making sure we get him right is important but he's very, very close now and that's great news for us."

Verdict

Arsenal are a top-quality side and are likely to be back to full-strength in this Premier League opener against Coventry. The Gunners can dominate against the Sky Blues and a high-scoring home win is tipped.
