The upcoming Premier League match between Manchester United and Leeds promises an entertaining contest, with goals anticipated. Manchester United is expected to have the upper hand, backed by a strong winning streak and a recent head-to-head dominance over Leeds. Leeds, coming off a dramatic FA Cup win, are struggling in the Premier League, particularly in away fixtures, but hold a recent draw against Man Utd at Old Trafford. Key lineup changes for both teams will also play a pivotal role in this intriguing matchup.

Manchester United vs Leeds Predictions

An entertaining contest should round up the weekend's Premier League action on Monday. I have stakes on BTTS and a home win with at least three goals scored.

Goals on the Cards

  • Manchester United won their last 5 home matches
  • Manchester United have seen over 2.5 goals in their last 4 matches
  • Manchester United have seen BTTS in 7 of their last 9 matches
  • Leeds United have seen over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 5 matches against Manchester United
  • Leeds have seen BTTS in 8 of their last 10 away matches (Premier League)
  • Leeds United lost 2 of their last 4 matches

Manchester United Dominate Recent H2H Against Leeds

Manchester United and Leeds United have met in seven competitive fixtures since 2020. Man Utd won four of those games, while three matches finished level.

Leeds have not beaten their old rivals since an FA Cup win at Old Trafford in 2010.

Man Utd Return After Three-Week Hiatus

Man Utd return to Premier League business more than three weeks after an entertaining 2-2 draw at Bournemouth. The Red Devils were frustrated to take only a point after twice being pegged back in a back-and-forth Premier League encounter.

In the end, a point a piece proved a fair outcome with final xG tallies of 1.8 and 1.77 reflecting the evenly-balanced nature of an exciting contest on the south coast.

Michael Carrick's side have been a fun side to watch in recent weeks. Six of their last nine Premier League matches, including each of the last four, have seen BTTS and over 2.5 goals land.

Since Carrick's appointment, United have shown significant improvement, winning seven and losing just one of their last ten league games.

With seven matches remaining, the Red Devils sit third in the table, six points behind Manchester City.

Leeds Overcome Hammers in FA Cup

Leeds United make the trip to Old Trafford after a thrilling FA Cup victory against Leeds United nine days ago. Goals from Ao Tanaka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin looked to have sealed victory before two goals conceded in stoppage time took a dramatic contest to extra time.

With no further goals in 30 additional minutes, Leeds held their nerve to claim a 3-2 penalty shootout victory at the London Stadium.

Daniel Farke's side have struggled for form in recent weeks, failing to win any of their last six Premier League matches. Four draws in that run have kept them just above the relegation zone, holding a narrow two-point cushion above Spurs ahead of this weekend's fixtures.

The Peacocks have struggled to make much of an impact on their travels this season. Leeds failed to win 14 of 15 away Premier League matches since August (W1, D7, L7). An average of 2.86 goals per game was scored in those fixtures.

In search of a first Premier League win against Manchester United since 2002, Farke's side did claim a 2-2 draw on their last visit to this venue in 2023.

Predicted Lineups and Team News

Manchester United (4-2-3-1) Senne Lammens; Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Tyler Fredricson, Luke Shaw; Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo; Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha; Bryan Mbeumo.

Interim boss Carrick has several selection issues to deal with this week. Harry Maguire is suspended, while Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu are ruled out due to injury, and Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo face late fitness tests.

Lisandro Martinez is fit and available but unlikely to start following another injury layoff. Carrick hinted he will take a cautious approach with the Argentine defender ahead of Monday's clash.

“It's the call that we make,” said Carrick. “We wouldn't be pushed into anything.

“He's back training, back on the grass, which is great. It's important the boys are ready."

“But as important as the next game always is, the most important thing is the bigger picture.”

Leeds (4-4-2) Karl Darlow; Jayden Bogle, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol, Pascal Struijk;
James Justin, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Brenden Aaronson; Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha.

Head coach Farke has half a dozen injury issues for Monday's Premier League fixture. Anton Stach, Daniel James and Joe Rodon are ruled out, while Gabriel Gudmundsson and Jaka Bijol are doubtful. Noah Okafor is also likely to miss out.

Speaking after the FA Cup win against West Ham, Daniel Farke expressed his delight at Leeds' performance.

“We never do it the easy way. We could have had it easier if we were more composed, but it's an FA Cup quarter-final away tie, and we expect the other team to give everything until the end.

“It was not an easy game for us in many aspects, but to be able to celebrate with our fantastic supporters will do lots for our confidence."

"It's a big night for everyone connected with Leeds United.”

Verdict

Goals should be on the cards in an intriguing Premier League contest. I expect both teams to score, with Man Utd also tipped to claim another home victory.
