Pohang Steelers host Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League Elite, with Gamba Osaka tipped to win and both teams to score. Pohang have lost all three group matches, conceding eight goals and scoring just once, while Gamba Osaka remain unbeaten in the group, having scored at least twice in four of their last six matches. Recent head-to-heads have also seen both teams score. Gamba Osaka's attacking form and Pohang's defensive struggles support the selection, though Pohang have edged the overall head-to-head record.

Pohang Steelers vs Gamba Osaka Predictions

Pohang Steelers host Gamba Osaka in an AFC Champions League Elite encounter on Wednesday.

The Korean side have lost their first three continental matches, while Gamba Osaka are unbeaten in the East section.

I'm backing BTTS and Gamba Osaka to win in Pohang.

Gamba Osaka Tipped to Win

  • Pohang Steelers lost their last 3 matches (AFC Elite)
  • Pohang Steelers conceded 2+ goals in 4 of their last 6 matches
  • Pohang Steelers have seen BTTS in their last 2 matches against Gamba Osaka
  • Gamba Osaka have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 6 matches
  • Gamba Osaka scored 2+ goals in 4 of their last 6 matches
  • Gamba Osaka won 2 of their last 3 matches (AFC Elite)

Pohang Steelers Edge H2H

Pohang Steelers and Gamba Osaka have met on four previous occasions. Pohang claimed two wins in 2012 before Gamba secured a 2-1 win in their most recent encounter in Japan earlier this year.

One game finished level.

Pohang Steelers Struggling for Form

Pohang Steelers return to AFC Champions League Elite action after a 1-1 home draw against Jeju SK in the K League 1 on Sunday.

Emerson Negueba put the visitors ahead before Wanderson equalised from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time.

Both teams could have little complaint with the final score reflecting a tight contest at Sangju Civic Stadium.

Pohang registered 46% possession and 13 shots compared to Jeju's ten, with both teams managing three efforts on target. The hosts also narrowly edged the xG totals  (1.33-1.14),

The out-of-form K League 1 side have now failed to win their last six matches, including a disappointing 3-0 AFC Champions League Elite defeat at Kashima Antlers last Wednesday.

Park Tae-ha departed as head coach after the defeat, with Kim Sung-jae taking interim charge for last Sunday's contest against Jeju.

Pohang have struggled to make the step up to continental competition this season. The Koreans have lost all three AFC Champions League Elite fixtures, scoring just once and conceding eight goals.

Gamba Osaka Looking to Maintain Unbeaten AFC Run

Gamba Osaka return to continental action after a goalless draw at Machida Zelvia in the J1 League on Sunday.

The Japanese visitors created several chances to claim three points but were unable to break the deadlock at Machida GION Stadium.

Tomokazu Myojin's side registered more shots (21-14), including ten efforts on target and recorded a narrowly higher xG total (1.31-1.26).

Sunday's stalemate followed a 1-1 AFC Champions League Elite draw against Buriram United last Wednesday. Takashi Usami's second-half goal rescued a draw for the Nerazzurri.

Unbeaten in their last six games, Osaka were held to stalemates in four of their last five fixtures.

Despite struggling for consistency domestically, Gamba Osaka have impressed in the AFC Champions League Elite. The J1 League side opened their campaign with a 4-1 win against Cong An Ha Noi before claiming a fine 3-1 victory at Newcastle Jets on matchday two.

Gamba remain unbeaten in the East section with seven points from three matches. The J1L outfit have yet to keep a clean sheet in the competition, having also conceded in 12 of their last 14 competitive fixtures.

Pohang Steelers vs Gamba Osaka Team News

Pohang Steelers: (3-5-2) Hwang In-jae; Park Chan-yong, Jeon Min-gwang, Shin Kwang-hoon; Kang Min-jun, Kim Dong-jin, Kim Seung-ho, Juninho Rocha, Wanderson; Jorge Teixeira, An Jae-joon.

Pohang interim head coach Kim Sung-jae could make one or two changes after Sunday's 1-1 draw against Jeju SK.

Jakob Tranziska is among those pushing for a recall after replacing Jorge Teixeira during the first half.

Wanderson is expected to retain his place after scoring the equaliser against Jeju.

Gamba Osaka: (4-2-3-1) Jun Ichimori; Soya Fujiwara, Shinnosuke Nakatani, Shogo Sasaki, Ryo Hatsuse; Shuto Abe, Juanpe; Eli Adams, Takashi Usami, Ryotaro Meshino; Yusei Toshida.

Gamba Osaka interim boss Myojin could make some alterations after back-to-back draws against Buriram United and Machida Zelvia.

Rui Araki (elbow), Genta Miura (knee) and Asahi Uenaka (knee) remain sidelined, while Welton is doubtful with a knee injury.

Takashi Usami is pushing for a starting recall after scoring against Buriram, while Issam Jebali and Rin Mito are also in contention to come into the side.

Verdict

Gamba Osaka are in better form, and they should maintain their strong performances in the AFC Elite this week.

BTTS looks like a good choice, while I also fancy an away win in South Korea.
