Queretaro vs Puebla Predictions & Tips - High-Scoring Home Win Expected in Liga MX

Queretaro take on Puebla at Estadio La Corregidora in Liga MX, with the main tip being Queretaro to win and both teams to score. Queretaro have a strong recent record in this fixture, winning four of their last five matches against Puebla and securing victory in their last three head-to-head meetings. Puebla's defensive problems are evident, having failed to keep a clean sheet in 17 of their last 19 games, and they remain winless in their last eight league matches. These factors support the selection for a home win with both teams finding the net.

Queretaro vs Puebla Predictions

Queretaro welcome Puebla to Estadio La Corregidora in Sunday's Liga MX Apertura encounter.

Both teams have struggled recently, with the hosts losing four successive league matches and Puebla failing to win any of their last eight fixtures.

I'm backing Queretaro to return to winning ways, while I also expect both teams to score.

Queretaro Backed to Edge Puebla

  • Queretaro have seen BTTS in their last 3 matches
  • Queretaro won 4 of their last 5 matches against Puebla (competitive fixtures)
  • Puebla have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 4 matches against Queretaro
  • Puebla have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 matches
  • Puebla lost 5 of their last 8 matches

Queretaro Edge Recent H2H Record

Queretaro and Puebla have met on 13 occasions since 2020. Queretaro claimed five victories, while Puebla picked up four wins. Four matches finished as draws.

Queretaro won their last three encounters, including a 2-1 away victory in April.

Queretaro Slip-Up at Juarez

Queretaro return to home comforts after a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Juarez last weekend.

Oscar Estupinan opened the scoring before Madson doubled the hosts' advantage before half-time. Jose Luis Rodriguez added a third in the second half before Ali Avila grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.

Esteban Gonzalez's men were left to rue a series of missed opportunities at Estadio Olimpico Benito Juarez. Queretaro registered 27 shots to Juarez's 15.

Final xG totals highlighted the visitors' wastefulness in front of goal. Queretaro recorded a 2.69 xG total, significantly higher than the hosts' 1.42.

Last weekend's defeat extended Queretaro's losing run to four matches. Los Gallos Blancos had previously slipped to high-scoring reversals against Cruz Azul (3-1), Atletico San Luis (2-1) and Santos Laguna (5-0).

Before their recent dip in form, Gonzalez's side had won four of five previous Liga MX matches.

Queretaro now find themselves 11th in the Liga MX standings, with 20 points collected from 14 games.

Puebla Winless Run Continues

Puebla make the trip to Queretaro looking to bounce back from a  2-1 home defeat against Pumas last weekend.

Juninho gave the visitors an early lead before Omar Moreno levelled in the first half. A competitive contest looked set to finish all square until Alvaro Angulo struck a 90th-minute winner.

Final xG totals suggested the visitors were good value for their victory. Puebla recorded a 1.26 xG total, while Pumas registered 2.85.

Gerardo Espinoza's out-of-form side have now lost their last three matches after high-scoring defeats against Atlas (4-3) and Monterrey (4-1) last month.

The out-of-form away side have failed to win any of their last eight Liga MX matches, with just three points picked up in that period.

Poor defensive performances have been a recurring issue for Puebla. Espinoza's men failed to keep a clean sheet in 17 of their last 19 matches.

With 16 points collected from 15 matches, the visitors now sit 14th in the Apertura standings.

Queretaro vs Puebla Team News

Queretaro: (4-2-3-1) Guillermo Allison; Daniel Parra, Lucas Abascia, Diego Reyes, Enzo Gimenez; Bernardo Parra, Carlo Adriano; Iker Benito, Mateo Coronel, Denilson Munoz; Ali Avila.

Queretaro boss Gonzalez could make changes following last weekend's defeat at Juarez.

Jesus Arellano and Bayron Duarte are among those in contention to earn recalls for the home side.

Santiago Homenchenko, Erik Duenas and Jean Unjanque remain sidelined with various injury issues.

Top scorer Ali Avila is expected to spearhead the home attack. The 23-year-old forward has scored six goals in 14 Liga MX appearances this season.

Puebla: (4-2-3-1) Ricardo Gutierrez; Iker Moreno, Juan Pablo Vargas, Facundo Almada, Jose Pachuca; Fernando Monarrez, Alejandro Organista; Brayan Garnica, Omar Moreno, Eduardo Armenta; Luifer Hernandez.

Head coach Espinoza is likely to consider some alterations after last weekend's home defeat against Pumas.

Kevin Velasco, Ignacio Maestro and Mathias Tomas are among those pushing for recalls after appearing as substitutes last time out.

Injured duo Sergio Sanabria and Eduardo Navarro are expected to remain unavailable.

Verdict

Both teams have been in poor recent form, but Queretaro have a strong home record in this fixture.

Given their lack of clean sheets, BTTS looks a solid choice, while I also have a stake on the hosts to claim victory at Estadio La Corregidora.
