Real Madrid have a long history against Bayern Munich, both teams with 12 wins each alongside four draws.

They last met in the 2023/24 Champions League semi-finals, a 2-2 draw in Germany followed by Real Madrid winning 2-1 in Spain.

Real Still Alive in the Champions League

Real Madrid won all five matches in March including two against Man City in the Champions League. Federico Valverde hit a hat-trick in a 3-0 home win and Vinicius Junior scored twice in a 2-1 victory in England.

Vinicius Junior bagged another two goals as Los Blancos beat local rivals Atletico Madrid 3-2 before the international break. They held on under heavy pressure as Valverde was sent off late on.

Alvaro Arbeloa’s side returned to action with a 2-1 defeat at Mallorca which has seen their La Liga aspirations take a big blow. Eder Militão equalised in the 88th minute before conceding again in added time.

The manager took responsibility and asked his players to move on: "This defeat is mine, and I have told the players. It is entirely and absolutely mine, and what I need from them is to start thinking about Tuesday's match.

"When they leave the locker room, this match should be over for them. I am the one who makes the decisions, the one who creates the lineup, the one who makes the substitutions, and the one who decides how we should play, and this defeat is absolutely the responsibility of the Real Madrid coach."

FC Bayern on Fire

Bayern Munich have won 10 of their last 11 matches and are on track to win three titles this season. They thrashed Atalanta 10-2 on aggregate on the Champions League round of 16.

Vincent Kompany’s side returned to Bundesliga action with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Union Berlin. They were completely dominant with 74% possession and 9-1 shots on target, Serge Gnabry scoring twice.

The Bavarians won 3-2 at Freiburg on Saturday after coming back from a 2-0 deficit. Trailing in the 80th minute, Tom Bischof scored twice and Lennart Karl completed the comeback in the 98th minute.

Kompany was pleased with the victory: "You can’t win every game 3-0 or 4-0 with Champagne football. You have to live this kind of emotion during a season. I’m actually happy with the 3 points because I knew it’d be tough."

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Real Madrid (4-4-2) Andrii Lunin; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Antonio Rudiger, Dean Huijsen, Álvaro Carreras; Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Guler; Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior

Thibaut Courtois, Ferland Mendye, Dani Ceballos and Rodrygo are out here. Federico Valverde returns from suspension and is a big boost.

Eder Militão and Jude Bellingham came off the bench in Mallorca and might have to wait a while longer before earning a starting spot.

Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1) Jonas Urbig; Josip Stanisic, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, Tom Bischof; Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic; Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, Luis Díaz; Harry Kane

Jonas Urbig could replace Manuel Neuer in goal here with Aleksandar Pavlovic a chance to come into midfield for Leon Goretzka.

Harry Kane was rested in Freiburg but should reclaim his spot up front. Kompany was optimistic about his star striker before the Freiburg game: "Harry trained well until Sunday. Then he felt something in his ankle while on international duty... It’s not ideal. But I’m optimistic about Tuesday.”

Verdict

Bayern Munich banged 10 goals past Atalanta and have scored 100 goals in the Bundesliga. Real Madrid have their own attacking weapons which should make this an open Champions League clash.
