Kairat Almaty travel to face Sutjeska in the Champions League qualifying second leg with a 2-1 first-leg advantage. The Kazakh champions are riding a five-match winning streak and boast more European experience, making them favorites to progress. Sutjeska struggled in pre-season and recent European competitions but will be pushing hard at home to overturn the deficit. Both teams are expected to score, but Kairat’s form makes them likely winners. Key team news includes some potential line-up changes for both sides.

Sutjeska vs Kairat Almaty Predictions

Kairat Almaty travel to Montenegro with a narrow advantage in Wednesday’s Champions League qualifying second leg.

The Kazakh champions have much more experience at this level and will be confident of finishing the job this week.

I have my money on Kairat Almaty to claim a second-leg win on Wednesday, while I also have a stake on BTTS.

Kairat Backed to Claim Second-Leg Spoils

  • Sutjeska lost their last 5 matches
  • Sutjeska have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 7 matches (competitive fixtures)
  • Kairat Almaty won their last 5 matches
  • Kairat Almaty have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 7 matches

Kairat Claim Victory in First-Ever Encounter

Sutjeska and Kairat will meet for the second time on Wednesday. Last week’s first-ever encounter finished as a 2-1 home win for Kairat.

Sutjeska Still in the Tie

Sutjeska return to Niksic knowing they must win to keep alive their hopes of Champions League qualification.

The Montenegrin champions produced a resilient performance in Almaty but eventually slipped to a 2-1 first-leg defeat in their first competitive fixture of the season.

Marko Mrvaljevic’s stoppage-time equaliser looked to have earned Milorad Pekovic’s side a draw before Marc Gual struck two minutes later to snatch victory for the Kazakh champions.

The Montenegrin side arrived in Kazakhstan after losing all three of their pre-season friendlies, but proved more competitive than expected against the hosts.

Sutjeska have struggled to make an impact in European competition in recent seasons. The Blues have lost four of their last five continental fixtures and won only four of their last 20 matches since 2019.

Both of the host’s last two European home fixtures finished as 2-1 home defeats.

Kairat Hold the Advantage

Kairat travel to Montenegro after extending their winning run with last week’s narrow first-leg victory.

The Yellow-and-Blacks were forced to wait until the 76th minute to make the breakthrough, with goals from Lucas Africo and Marc Gual eventually securing victory.

Already in the middle of their domestic campaign, Rafael Urazbakhtin’s side won four successive Kazakhstan Premier League matches before edging past Sutjeska in Almaty.

The in-form Kazakh champions have scored 17 goals during their five-match winning run.

The visitors also have recent Champions League experience to call on after reaching the league phase of the competition last season.

Sutjeska vs Kairat Almaty Team News

Sutjeska: (4-2-3-1) Vladan Giljen; Aleksa Golubovic, Boris Kopitovic, Andrija Raznatovic, Jovan Cadjenovic; Deni Hocko, Marko Simun; Petar Anicic, Vasilije Cavor, Kenroy Campbell; Slobodan Babic

Sutjeska boss Milorad Pekovic could make changes with Sutjeska chasing a one-goal deficit on Wednesday.

Marko Mrvaljevic is pushing for a start after a goalscoring substitute appearance in the first leg.

Summer signings Kenroy Campbell, Slobodan Babic and Aleksandar Boljevic are all available for selection.

Kairat Almaty: (4-2-3-1) Temirlan Anarbekov; Yerkin Tapalov, Alyaksandr Martynovich, Lucas Africo, Luis Mata; Adilet Sadybekov, Dan Glazer; Oiva Jukkola, Jorginho, Sebastian Zeballos; Marc Gual

Kairat boss Rafael Urazbakhtin could retain much of the side that secured a first-leg victory.

Lucas Africo and Marc Gual are expected to keep their places after scoring in Almaty.

Ismail Bekbolat is tipped to earn a recall after providing assists for both Kairat goals from the bench last week.

Verdict

Kairat are the stronger side and should prove too good for a Sutjeska side that could prove a little undercooked this week.

An away win is my best bet, while I also expect both teams to score.
