United States In Trouble After Third Defeat

The United States are in danger of falling at the first hurdle in the World Championship, following their third defeat in five games.

The USA came into this tournament as the defending champions and the recent winners of the Winter Olympics gold medal, but with a weakened roster they have struggled.

They opened the tournament with a 3-1 defeat to tournament hosts Switzerland, in a rematch from last year’s final.

The United States rebounded with a 5-1 blowout of Great Britain, only to then suffer a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Finland.

America responded with a 4-3 victory over Germany, but they again failed to follow up a victory as they suffered a shock 4-2 defeat to Latvia on Saturday.

Hungary Seeking Second Win Of Tournament

Hungary enter this matching having now lost back-to-back games to fall to 1-4 in the tournament so far.

The Hungarians were handed a tough opener in the form of a meeting with Finland, and they fell to a 4-1 defeat.

That was followed by a 4-2 loss to Austria, before they finally got off the mark with a 5-0 shutout of Great Britain.

Hungary have not won since though, suffering back-to-back blowout defeats.

The Hungarians fell 6-2 when they took on Germany, and in their most recent outing on Saturday they were shutout in a 9-0 hammering at the hands of Switzerland.

Verdict

The United States not only need a win, they need to record a convincing one too.

The good news is they are facing a Hungary team that is giving up a bunch of goals, so we are cautiously backing the Americans here.
