South Africa U20 Eight Wins in last Nine

South Africa began the defence of their title with a comprehensive victory over Uruguay last weekend, winning 104-7 after leading 50-0 at the break.

Before that, the Junior Boks thumped Chile 97-0, Fiji 82-25, and Georgia 57-14 to win the U20 International Series in South Africa.

Earlier this year, South Africa lifted the U20 Rugby Championship title for the first time. They beat Argentina 48-21 and Australia 56-17 before drawing 29-29 with rivals New Zealand.

At the 2025 World Rugby U20 Championship, the Junior Springboks thrashed Australia 73-17, beat England 32-22, and thumped Scotland 73-14 in the group stages. They then defeated Argentina 48-24 in the semi-finals before beating New Zealand 23-15 in the final.

South Africa were in tremendous touch in their tournament opener, scoring plenty of tries, and will start confidently when they take on Georgia, having defeated the hosts four consecutive times.

Georgia U20 Came within a Whisker last Weekend

Georgia came close to starting their campaign with a victory, but lost 25-24 to 13-man Wales last weekend.

Before that, Georgia played three matches at the U20 International Series in South Africa. They beat Fiji 29-23 and thrashed Chile 59-26 before losing 57-14 to the Junior Boks.

The Junior Lelos had some success at last year's World Rugby U20 Championship. They lost 35-28 to Ireland, 38-19 to New Zealand, and drew 19-19 with Italy during the group stages. They subsequently defeated Spain 43-12 and Scotland 22-7 in the play-offs to finish 9th overall.

Georgia have a mountain to climb when they face a rampant South Africa in their second game, as their opponents produced a ruthless performance against Uruguay, scoring at will during that match.

"They are a proud and passionate rugby nation and will be disappointed after that narrow loss to Wales, so we will need to be ready mentally and physically for the challenge they will bring.

"They will also have a passionate home crowd behind them, which will make it a very tough contest."
