Georgia’s best hope of upsetting Spain in their upcoming basketball matchup lies in slowing down the tempo. Learning from their mistakes against Ukraine, Georgia is expected to focus on defense and pace control. As a result, betting on the total points being under 157.5 is considered the strongest recommendation for this game. The key insight is that Georgia’s game plan hinges on avoiding a shootout and keeping the contest low-scoring to maximize their upset chances.

Match Preview

Spain are looking unstoppable in these qualifiers, topping Group A with an impressive 5-0 record. Can they carry over the maximum number of points to the next phase against inconsistent Georgia?

Georgia are Through But Struggle

Georgia have already qualified for the next phase but will still take this remaining match seriously and attempt to carry over as many points as possible, currently holding a 2-3 record.

They missed a couple of important players in the opening rounds which resulted in back-to-back defeats against Ukraine 92-79 and Spain 90-61.

Their first victory arrived in the third round against Denmark 89-71 in Farum, before beating the same opponent again at home 89-60. Veteran and national icon Tornike Shengelia played a major role with 27 points and 11 rebounds.

The Georgians were tagged as favorites on Thursday against Ukraine on a neutral court in Riga, but simply couldn’t find the rhythm, losing all four quarters and the match 95-76. Shengelia had poor 3/10 shooting, finishing with 13 points.

Spain Dominating the Group

Even without several star players, Spain have been one of the most dominant teams in the FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifiers so far, topping Group A with five wins in five rounds.

They started the campaign with back-to-back victories in November, beating Denmark 74-64 on the road before crushing Georgia 90-61 in front of the home crowd.

Spain extended their winning streak against Ukraine, first winning 86-66 on a neutral court in Riga, then defeating the same opponent again 78-64 at home, where Francisco Alonso finished as top scorer with 12 points.

On Thursday, La Roja had zero problems dispatching Denmark 109-81 in front of the home crowd, showing excellent two-point efficiency (27/39). Pierre Oriola was the standout performer, scoring 20 points while shooting a perfect 8/8 from the field.

Verdict

Slowing down Spain is Georgia’s best chance of pulling an upset here. I believe they learned from mistakes made against Ukraine, so under 157.5 points looks like the best bet.
