Venezuela, after a strong showing against Brazil earlier this year, is poised to offer another tough match in front of their home fans. Experts suggest that the hosts could be undervalued in the spread market, meaning bettors should be cautious about dismissing Venezuela's chances. The key conclusion is that Venezuela's home advantage could make a significant impact, potentially leading to an upset or a closer match than odds suggest.

Match Preview

This South American World Cup 2027 qualifying clash sees Venezuela host Brazil, with the hosts fighting to keep their qualification hopes alive, while the visitors aim to maintain their perfect record.

Venezuela Still Chasing Qualification Hope

Venezuela participated in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, but their results in these qualifiers have been quite poor so far, making a place at Qatar 2027 increasingly unlikely.

They started the qualifying campaign with a narrow 80-78 defeat against Colombia in late November, followed by a somewhat expected loss to Brazil that was closer than the final result might suggest.

Their first and only victory so far came in early March against Chile, winning 72-68 in Santiago. Yeferson Guerra hit clutch shots in the second half and finished as the top scorer with 16 points, six rebounds and two assists.

Brazil Looking to Stay Perfect

Brazil are one of the most dominant teams in the South American qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup, already clinching a spot in the next phase after winning all four games so far.

They were not challenged at all in the opening two rounds against Chile, claiming back-to-back convincing victories, 82-66 and 78-62, then extended their perfect streak with a 94-84 home win over Venezuela in late February.

Their fourth straight victory came a couple of days later, crushing Colombia 101-72 in front of the home crowd, where they forced 16 turnovers, dominated the boards with a 42-32 rebounding and shot 50% from the field. Caio Pacheco dominated the floor with 17 points and 11 assists.

Verdict

Venezuela caused trouble for Brazil when they first met earlier this year, and I expect them to do the same now in front of the home crowd. The hosts are heavily underestimated in the spread market in my opinion.
