Mad Bookie Review
Mad Bookie was launched in 2015, making it one of the newer names in the industry. It strongly emphasises its proud Australian heritage and claims to want to give punters more than the current batch of UK-owned online bookmakers operating in the country.
In 2017, Mad Bookie was acquired by TopBetta Holdings Limited, which in turn was purchased by the up-and-coming social betting brand PlayUp Limited in 2018.
It is licenced by Australia’s Northern Territory Government under TopBetta Pty Limited’s licence and for SA residents, it adheres to the Responsible Gambling Code of Practice. Mad Bookie is an approved betting provider for AFL, NRL, Cricket Australia, Tennis Australia, Racing Victoria and Australian Rugby Union.

Mad Bookie Odds & Markets
Mad Bookie offers racing and sports. It’s easy to flick from one to the other based on your preference. Let’s take a closer look at both to see what the deal is.
Mad Bookie has a respectable range of sports for you to bet on. There are also plenty of futures as well to get stuck into. Here’s a look at what you’ll find here:
AFL | Baseball | Basketball | Boxing | Cricket |
Cycling | Darts | Golf | Gridiron | Handball |
Ice Hockey | MMA | Motor Racing | Rugby League | Rugby Union |
Snooker | Soccer | Surfing | Tennis | Volleyball |

Mad Bookie Football Betting Tips
With all sports having a seasonal element to them, the markets at Mad Bookie are forever changing to bring punters the hottest action at any given point. Our team purposely conducted this Mad Bookie review during the AFL and NRL off-season to assess what other strengths this bookmaker holds.
Soccer betting comes from 19 countries including Australia, England, Spain, Italy, Germany, USA, France and Brazil. Although this is far from the most comprehensive lineup in the industry, it covers all of the most popular leagues and cup competitions so there’s still plenty of top drawer action. Market depth for the top matches is respectable but not sensational. You’ll find around 45 options await such as match winner, correct score, BTTS, HT/FT, double chance, clean sheets, totals and margins to name a few. Things drop-off quite a bit in many of the other matches with less than 5 betting markets made available.
There is a mixed-bag for the other sports as well. Basketball lists 12 separate leagues which include the NBL, NBA, Greek GBL and NCAAB among others. NBA matches carry the most depth in betting markets but even those are limited to around 20 opportunities. Many of the other fixtures only have match result markets. The same goes for ice hockey, tennis and handball. There’s an international flavour but not many betting opportunities outside of a few big games.
Having looked at the prices Mad Bookie offers, and it’s fair to say it is reasonably competitive overall. Certainly not the best, but not the worst either. However, for the total number of betting markets, this bookmaker is someway behind the big names in the industry, so it really needs to up its game in this area.

Mad Bookie Horse Racing Betting Tips & more
At Mad Bookie, it not only covers thoroughbred, greyhound and harness racing from Australia but there is also plenty of action from overseas, too. This includes races from New Zealand, the UK, South Africa, Hong Kong, France and the USA.
Punters get a good selection of betting markets on most races. For local meetings, there are fixed odds on the win and place bets, plus best tote + start price and middle tote (place). You also have a choice of popular exotic bets such as quinella, exacta, trifecta and first four. Races from overseas offer the same fixed odds markets but the tote is payed from the Australian SUPER TAB + 5% on win and place bets. You also have a choice of exotics to pick from as well.
There isn’t any live streaming available which is a slight drawback. But, for form guides, Mad Bookie cannot be faulted. It provides a comprehensive breakdown of each runner (for local races) which can definitely help guide your bet selections. If you are looking further afield, perhaps to one of the big Group 1 races, click on the ‘Featured Races’ tab. This offers a list of ante-post markets for Australia’s biggest and best races for the calendar year.
Mad Bookie Live Betting
Does Mad Bookie offer live betting? It states on its website that punters can bet live simply by calling 1800 MAD BET. However, it doesn’t provide any live betting prices on its site, so how do you know the odds? With that in mind, our Mad Bookie review team believes that live betting is still only pre-match - not in-play - at this moment in time.
Mad Bookie Website & Login
So, what does Mad Bookie bring to the table? Although the design of its website is fairly standard, it does offer a couple of interesting features for punters to enjoy.
Mad Bookie’s Mad Lays
This one's for AFL and NRL bettors. Mad Bookie guarantees that it will be the best price in Australia at the time of placing the bet on a standard head-to-head market for both AFL and NRL matches. It also promises there will not be any restrictions on how much you can wager - stating this is an ordinary bet but with the very best price which is why it’s called Mad Lays. Certainly worth checking the page out during the season to see what’s on offer.
Mad Bookie Player Bets
If you are familiar with Player Props at Top Betta, you’ll instantly recognise this product. Player Bets gives you the ability to create your own prop bets based on a statistical metric of your choosing.
Currently, it is offered on NBA, NFL, EPL, La Liga, Serie A, AFL and NRL matches. You can have a single bet using only one player with O/U markets such as goals, passes, shots, assists, cards and shots on target. Alternatively, you’re able to build H2H or trio bets where the players compete against each other in the metric you’ve chosen.
Website/Usability
We’d describe the Mad Bookie website as functional. It doesn’t set the pulse racing, but it does the job it is required to do. The layout is simple with a series of quick links, followed by racing and sports menus belows. This is the preferred Australian set-up so no complaints there. Navigation is easy as the menu buttons expand (if necessary) to reveal further options. This leads you to the exact event you want.
To have a punt, all you have to do is click on the price and the bet will be added to your slip. If you add multiple selections, they will simply stack on top of one another and your multi bet or doubles and trebles can be found at the bottom.
Mad Bookie Mobile App
The web-based platform is fully responsive and it works perfectly well on all mobile devices, yet if you are searching for something a little more personalised, the Mad Bookie mobile app is what you want. It can be downloaded for iOS devices from the App Store and for Android devices from this link: https://www.madbookie.com.au/Android.
The app is more stylish than the desktop platform and it offers a very user-friendly betting interface. It’s lightweight so the loading time of pages is fast. The clear menus help to make navigating to where you want to go much simpler. Banking is totally safe, you can claim all Mad Bookie bonuses and snap up the regular promos, too.
Mad Bookie Withdrawals & Deposits
There are no e-wallets, such as PayPal available, which makes banking for overseas customers slightly more expensive. However, Australian residents shouldn’t have any concerns with the follow methods open to them:
- VISA
- Mastercard
- POLi
- BPAY
- Bank Transfer
In the terms and conditions, Mad Bookie states that withdrawal requests will be processed within 7 days. This is an area where improvement is needed as many Australian bookmakers have VISA/Mastercards that offer instant withdrawals.
