Paddy Power was founded in 1988 when three Irish bookmakers: David Power, Stewart Kenny and John Corcoran merged their collective 40 betting shops. The company set about an aggressive expansion campaign in Ireland and by 2001 it had a 33% market share of off-course betting in the country.
