FURIA Have To Find Their Stride

FURIA have been hugely underwhelming in the weeks leading up to StarLadder Star Series Fall. They had a strong showing at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major in June, when they placed second, and in August, FURIA finished fourth at the Esports World Cup.

Two promising results were followed by two less inspiring tournament placements, as FURIA finished fifth-sixth at BLAST Open Fall and FISSURE Playground #3. Across the two events, FURIA have beaten paiN Gaming, M80, GamerLegion, and PARIVISION, but could not keep up with G2 Esports, Legacy, Team Vitality, and Team Spirit.

FURIA have essentially handled lower-rated teams and failed to step it up against stronger opponents, which is not a good look for their chances of making a run in Spain.

MIBR With More to Prove

MIBR enter StarLadder StarSeries Fall following one of their best tournament runs of the season, as they made the semifinals of FISSURE Playground #3.

In China, the Brazilian squad defeated The MongolZ, 9z Team, and Alliance, which is nothing to write home about. However, MIBR have also forced a very close game against the eventual champions, Legacy, in the semifinals, proving they can compete at a high level.

MIBR’s performance in China inspires some confidence that they can do damage at StarLadder StarSeries. But one good game in a sea of middling results means nothing. MIBR have a lot more to prove.

FURIA v MIBR

MIBR impressed with their top-four finish at FISSURE Playground #3 this month; however, besides playing a close game against Legacy, MIBR haven’t really shown much.

Zooming out, they’ve failed to challenge the world’s best teams for most of the season, and until they can do so consistently, MIBR are hard to put much trust in.

FURIA have been underwhelming of late for their standards, but they’ve been very effective in dealing with weaker teams. They’ll have another chance to do so on Thursday.
