While LYON have shown they can challenge top teams, including taking a map off Gen.G in their last encounter, their inconsistency and recent struggles raise concerns. Gen.G Are Not Slowing Down
Gen.G entered LoL Worlds as the strongest team in the world. And so far, they’ve yet to show anything to suggest they can not make a run for the Summoner’s Cup.
The Korean titans cruised through the Swiss Stage, beating Invictus Gaming, Hanwha Life Esports, and LYON. Against Invictus Gaming and LYON, things got dicey, but Gen.G pulled through, showcasing the elite talent, decision-making, and draft flexibility a world champion needs.
So far, Gen.G have been the most consistent team of the tournament, with the cleanest games. They are not untouchable, but it’ll take a lot for them to slip in a best-of-five series.

LYON Have Potential
LYON made it through the Swiss Stage with a 3-2 record. They started the tournament strong, beating Team Secret Whales and Karmine Corp, then lost against Gen.G and Invictus Gaming, and won the decider against LOS.
In their last meeting with Gen.G, LYON put on a show. They outmanoeuvred the Korean champions on the first map, lost the second and put up a respectable fight on the third. However, despite keeping up individually, LYON got outdrafted and could not find a response to the Camille pick.
Since the close game against Gen.G, LYON hasn't shown the same level, losing to Invictus Gaming and having to pull a rabbit out of a hat to defeat LOS in the fifth round.
The last match, in particular, showed a lot of cracks in LYON’s game, but given their stronger showings earlier in the tournament, it is fair to say that the potential is there.

Verdict
By all standards, Gen.G are the better team. They’re more consistent, have a higher ceiling, stronger individual players, and draft better. But even with all that, LYON caused them issues in the last meeting, so it is fair to say that LYON’s ceiling is good enough to challenge the world’s elite.
The big question here is whether LYON will show what they’re capable of or whether they’ll play as poorly as they did against LOS. Then again, even in LYON’s last match against Gen.G it took an outstanding performance from Inspired for LYON to get a map, and it is fair to question whether that’s repeatable.
Gen.G to sweep is a likely outcome.
