Rytas are making a decent start to the new Lithuanian top-flight campaign, claiming four victories in five rounds and currently occupying second position, just behind Zalgiris Kaunas.

After starting the campaign with a surprising 105-102 home defeat to Gargzdai, the hosts claimed four consecutive domestic victories against Neptunas 86-77, Siauliai 95-88, Taurage 79-71 and, most recently, Juventus 94-76.

Rytas' most recent appearance was last Wednesday in the FIBA Champions League, when they hosted and defeated Trabzonspor 97-81 thanks to an early advantage, having built a 17-point lead by halftime. Arturas Gudaitis was the standout performer with 21 points and five rebounds.

Zalgiris Maintaining Their Perfect LKL Record

Zalgiris Kaunas look unstoppable in the LKL, having crushed Jonava 86-63 at home last week. That was their seventh consecutive victory this season in seven rounds.

Last week was quite busy for the Greens, starting with a very important 91-74 victory against Virtus Bologna away from home in the EuroLeague. After losing the first quarter by eight points, the Lithuanian champions won the other three quarters in dominant fashion.

Zalgiris extended their EuroLeague winning streak on Friday in front of the home crowd, beating Partizan 87-80. Carsen Edwards played a key role in the final quarter, scoring 17 points in total, while former NBA star Jonas Valanciunas contributed 16 points and eight rebounds.

I expect a tight affair in this Lithuanian derby. Rytas do their best work in front of the home crowd and have properly contested the Greens multiple times in the past, while also playing one game fewer than their opponents over the last seven days. A home win with a +8.5 handicap is my pick.
