Thailand vs Malaysia Predictions

Both nations are in good form, and a competitive contest could produce a high-scoring outcome this weekend.

I have my first stake on the hosts to win, while I also expect at least three goals scored.

Thailand Tipped in Bangkok

Thailand won 6 of their last 8 matches
Thailand have seen over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 7 matches
Thailand won their last 2 matches against Malaysia
Malaysia have seen over 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 12 matches
Malaysia lost 6 of their last 12 matches

Thailand Lead Head-to-Head Record

Thailand and Malaysia have met 20 times since 2004. Thailand claimed nine victories, while Malaysia picked up six wins.

The War Elephants recorded a narrow 1-0 victory when the nations last met at the 2024 ASEAN Championship.

Thailand also claimed a 3-0 home victory in the second leg of their 2023 ASEAN Championship semi-final.

Thailand Make Five-Star Start

Thailand return to Bangkok after making an impressive start to their ASEAN Championship campaign. Anthony Hudson’s side cruised to a 5-0 victory against Laos at the New Laos National Stadium last Saturday.

Teerasak Poeiphimai opened the scoring before Kakana Khamyok doubled Thailand’s advantage midway through the first half. Yotsakorn Burapha and Sarach Yooyen added further strikes before Khamyok scored his second goal to wrap up a dominant road win.

An impressive run of form has seen the Thais remain unbeaten in their last eight internationals. Hudson’s men won six of those games, with 24 goals scored in that period.

The War Elephants recorded five successive victories between October 2025 and March before drawing June friendlies against Kuwait and China.

Seven-time winners of the ASEAN Championship, Thailand have reached the final in six of the last seven editions of this tournament.

The War Elephants finished as runners-up in 2024 after suffering a 5-3 aggregate defeat against regional rivals Vietnam.

Malaysia Maintain Perfect Record

Malaysia travel to Bangkok after collecting maximum points from their opening two Group B fixtures.

Tan Cheng Hoe’s side began their campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Myanmar at Thuwunna Stadium. The Harimau Malaya followed that success with a commanding 4-0 home victory against Laos on Tuesday.

Josue scored his third goal of the tournament in what proved a routine win for Hoe’s men.

Malaysia have now won five of their last six internationals, with their only defeat coming against a strong Vietnamese side earlier this year. Cheng Hoe’s men scored 16 goals across those six fixtures, while scoring two goals or more in five of their six victories.

Like the home side, high-scoring outcomes have been frequent in the past year. Ten of their last 12 games finished with at least three goals scored.

Thailand vs Malaysia Squads and Team News

Thailand Squad

Goalkeepers: Kampol Pathomakkakul, Korrakot Pipatnadda, Chatchai Budprom

Defenders: Chaiyaphon Otton, Nattapong Sayriya, Narubadin Weerawatnodom, Pansa Hemviboon, Pichitchai Sienkrathok, Manuel Bihr, Waris Choolthong, Wanchai Jarunongkran, Adisorn Promrak, Oussama Thiangkham

Midfielders: Kakana Khamyok, Chawanwit Saelao, Thossawat Limwannasathian, Pokklaw Anan, Picha Autra, Worachit Kanitsribampen, Sarach Yooyen, Seksan Ratree

Forwards: Jehhanafee Mamah, Teerasak Poeiphimai, Yotsakorn Burapha, Patrik Gustavsson

Thailand boss Hudson should retain the majority of the side that cruised to a five-goal victory against Laos.

Kakana Khamyok is expected to continue in an attacking midfield role after scoring twice in Vientiane.

Teerasak Poeiphimai should lead the attack after opening the scoring against Laos.

Malaysia Squad

Goalkeepers: Azri Ghani, Haziq Aiman, Rahadiazli Rahalim

Defenders: Ubaidullah Shamsul, Jimmy Raymond, Rodney Celvin Akwensivie, Aysar Hadi, Ruventhiran Vengadesan, Alif Ahmad, Faris Danish

Midfielders: Endrick, Sergio Aguero, Wan Kuzain, Muhd Syafiq Ahmad, Haqimi Azim, Daryl Sham, Fazrul Amir Zaman, Ibrahim Manusi, Aliff Haiqal, Engku Nur Shakir, Ziad El Basheer

Forwards: Paulo Josue, Mohamadou Sumareh, Pavithran Gunalan, Hadi Fayyadh Abd Razak, Muhammad Ramadhan

Malaysia head coach Cheng Hoe has been dealt a blow with the absence of experienced midfielder Endrick.

Cheng Hoe confirmed the 31-year-old would miss out this weekend.

“At the moment, all the players are in the best condition. The only concern is Endrick,” said Cheng Hoe.

“Last night (on Wednesday), the doctor conducted an MRI scan and found that he has an MCL injury and needs to rest.

“This is not good news for the team. It is certainly a loss because Endrick is a senior and experienced player who helps guide the squad,” he said.

Captain Paulo Josue is certain to retain his place after scoring three goals in the opening two group matches.

Verdict

Thailand v Malaysia

Goals should be expected in a contest between two in-form nations this weekend.

Malaysia can threaten, but Thailand have the quality to claim victory in a game likely to produce at least three goals.
