Another demoralising defeat is predicted when Newcastle Jets host Shanghai Port in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday. The Jes have lost all three games and conceded 15 goals, and more of the same is tipped.

It's been a nightmare start to the season for the Jets. Mark Milligan's side are winless in the ACL Elite and A-League and don't look like turning things around anytime soon.

The Jets have been embarrassed in their return to continental football, suffering 7-1, 3-1 & 5-2 defeats to J-League sides Kashima, Gamba Osaka and Kyoto across the opening three Matchdays.

Newcastle were fortunate to receive two penalties against Kyoto last week to take a 2-0 lead, but they were never really in the hunt and promptly leaked five unanswered goals.

It was another tired-looking performance in the A-League on Saturday as the Jets suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Wellington Phoenix at home.

Shanghai Port Form

Kevin Muscat led Shanghai Port to the Chinese Super League premiership last term, ensuring their qualification into the ACL Elite.

It's been a decent start to the campaign for Port - they currently sit in eighth spot on the ladder, picking up four points. Port defeated Thai side Ratchaburi 6-4 in a wild opening game before a 1-1 draw at home with Daejon and 3-2 defeat against Vietnamese premiers Cong An Ha Noi.

Port haven't been able to replicate their form in the Chinese Super League from last term, but they are ending the season strongly, winning four of their last five games to rise to fifth spot on the ladder, 10 points adrift of Chengdu at the summit.
