Stuttgart vs Atletico Madrid Tips & Predictions – Close Match Expected in the Champions League

Stuttgart have secured six points from their first two UEFA Champions League matches. However, with Atletico Madrid currently in strong form, the prediction is for a scoring draw when these two sides meet on Tuesday. The article suggests that while Stuttgart have started well, Atletico's momentum makes a win difficult for the German team, making a draw with goals a recommended outcome.

Atletico Madrid’s recent form has been sensational, but now they are facing Stuttgart who lost just one home match since April. I think both sides would be happy to share the spoils on Tuesday.

Key Stats

  • Stuttgart are unbeaten in 7 of their last 8 home matches.
  • Stuttgart have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 6 home matches.
  • Atletico Madrid are unbeaten in 9 of their last 11 matches.
  • Atletico Madrid have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 8 away matches.

This Will Be Their First Competitive H2H

Stuttgart and Atletico Madrid locked horns just once so far, a friendly match in August 2016 which ended without a winner 1-1.

Swabians Won Both UCL Games so Far

Stuttgart are having a perfect start to the Champions League main phase, kicking things off with a 3-1 home victory against Viking where Ermedin Demirovic netted a hat-trick in the first half.

They fully justified role of favorites last week in Bratislava, beating Slovan 3-0 in a one-sided contest. The Swabians had 2.19-0.78 expected goals, 64% possession and 8-1 shots on target here.

Their two-game winning streak came to an end last weekend though, losing to Hamburg 1-0 in the Bundesliga after missing five goal chances (posted 2.29 xG with 66% possession and 24 shots).

Atletico Riding a Fantastic Streak

Atletico Madrid faced two English teams so far in the UCL main stage, starting with a 2-1 road loss to Liverpool at Anfield, but returned to winning ways last week with a 2-0 home victory against Man Utd.

The Atleti gained an early lead against the Red Devils, Pablo Barrios finding the net in the first minute on Alex Baena’s assist, while Ademola Lookman set the final score in the late stages.

Diego Simeone’s side is also in fantastic form in La Liga, securing five victories in a row against Sociedad 4-0, Osasuna 4-0, Real Madrid 2-1, Alaves 2-1 and most recently Espanyol 1-0. They are currently 2nd five points behind Barcelona.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Stuttgart (4-2-3-1) Fabian Bredlow; Josha Vagnoman, Finn Jeltsch, Jeff Chabot, Ramon Hendriks; Grischa Promel, Angelo Stiller; Bilal El Khannouss, Deniz Undav, Chris Fuhrich; Ermedin Demirovic

Dennis Seimen, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Ameen Al-Dakhil, Nikolas Nartey, Tiago Tomas, and Justin Diehl remain sidelined with injuries while Leo Sauer and Maximilian Mittelstadt are doubtful.

Atletico Madrid (4-4-2) Jan Oblak; Marcos Llorente, Axel Witsel, David Hancko, Alejandro Grimaldo; Giuliano Simeone, Pablo Barrios, Johnny Cardoso, Alex Baena; Kang-In Lee, Julian Alvarez

Atletico Madrid have arrived in Stuttgart without central defender Cristian Romero due to an adductor strain, alongside midfielder Koke (muscle problem).

Verdict

Stuttgart have collected six points from two UCL games, but I don’t expect them to extend this streak against red-hot Atletico Madrid. A scoring draw is worth backing on Tuesday.
