Vietnam welcomes Cambodia for their final Group A clash in the ASEAN Championship, with the defending champions in superb form. Having won 20 of their last 23 matches and remaining unbeaten, Vietnam is expected to claim a comfortable victory, having never lost to Cambodia in seven meetings (27 goals for, four against). Cambodia picked up their first group victory but are already eliminated. Expect Vietnam to win by at least three goals, securing their place at the top of the group and advancing to the semi-finals.

Vietnam vs Cambodia Predictions

Vietnam welcome Cambodia to My Dinh National Stadium for their final Group A fixture on Friday.

The defending champions have been in superb form, and should claim an easy win this weekend.

I have my stake on Vietnam to win by three clear goals.

Champions Backed for Big Win

  • Vietnam won 18 of their last 19 matches
  • Vietnam won by more than 2 goals in their last 3 wins
  • Vietnam have seen over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 matches
  • Vietnam won by more than 2 goals in 3 of their last 4 wins against Cambodia
  • Cambodia lost their last 6 matches against Vietnam
  • Cambodia have seen over 2.5 goals in 14 of their last 16 matches

Vietnam Dominate Head-to-Head Record

Vietnam and Cambodia have met seven times since 2004. Vietnam won all seven encounters, scoring 27 goals while conceding just four times.

The Golden Star Warriors claimed a 4-0 victory when the nations last met at the 2021 ASEAN Championship.

Vietnam Return to Winning Ways

Vietnam return to Hanoi after an impressive 3-0 victory against Indonesia at Pakansari Stadium earlier this week.

Kim Sang-sik’s side made a superb start, with Nguyen Van Vi opening the scoring after only six minutes before Nguyen Hai Long doubled their advantage just eight minutes later.

Substitute Nguyen Xuan Son completed the scoring with a composed finish midway through the second period.

The defending ASEAN champions bounced back to form after a surprise goalless draw with Singapore on matchday three. Despite those dropped points, Vietnam sit top of Group A with seven points and will secure a semi-final place by avoiding defeat on Friday.

An outstanding run over the past two years has seen Vietnam win 20 of their 23 matches while remaining unbeaten throughout that period. The in-form ASEAN champions scored 24 goals across their seven most recent victories.

Their uptick in form marks a remarkable turnaround after losing ten of 12 fixtures between November 2023 and October 2024.

Cambodia Claim First Victory

Cambodia travel to Hanoi after securing their first Group A points with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Timor-Leste. Hav Soknet broke the deadlock with a first-half header before adding a second goal after the interval.

Mon Rado completed the scoring in the closing stages at Morodok Techo National Stadium.

Koji Gyotoku’s side had begun their campaign with a narrow 2-1 home defeat against Singapore before a thumping  5-1 reversal against Indonesia in their second fixture.

Cambodia have already been eliminated from the competition and now face a considerable step up in quality against the defending champions.

A lack of competitive action has hindered the Angkor Warriors’ progress. Cambodia have played just nine matches since the start of 2025, losing five and claiming only two victories.

Vietnam vs Cambodia Squads and Team News

Vietnam Squad

Goalkeepers: Patrik Le Giang, Tran Trung Kien, Dang Van Lam

Head coach Sang-sik is expected to name the same side that eased past Indonesia earlier this week.

Nguyen Van Vi and Nguyen Hai Long should retain their places after getting their names on the scoresheet on Monday.

Nguyen Xuan Son is pushing for a start after scoring as a second-half substitute at Pakansari Stadium.

Speaking to the assembled media after the win against Indonesia, Sang-sik joked that his choice of clothing had influenced Vietnam’s recent results. He wore black for the wins against Timor-Leste and Indonesia but switched to white for the goalless draw with Singapore.

“Fans began saying that white clothes do not bring me luck,” Kim said. “I should throw out all the white clothes in my closet and tell my wife not to buy me any more.”

Cambodia Squad

Goalkeepers: Hul Kimhuy, Reth Lyheng, Koy Salim
Defenders: Ouk Sovann, Taing Bunchhai, Sophal Dimong, Phat Sokha, Chea Sokmeng, Tum Makara, Nu Chenmakara, Vann Vit
Midfielders: Sos Suhana, Yudai Ogawa, Sin Sovannmakara, Bong Samuel, Alisher Mirzaev, Iago Bento
Forwards: Sieng Chanthea, Sa Ty, Mat Noron, Abdel Kader Coulibaly, Hav Soknet, Mon Rado, Yem Devit, Mon Vanda

Gyotoku is likely to retain confidence in the same XI that started Monday’s victory against Timor-Leste. Soknet should continue in attack after scoring twice in Phnom Penh.

The Angkor Warriors have no reported injury issues.

Verdict

Vietnam were excellent against Indonesia and should secure top spot in Group A with another straightforward win in Hanoi.

I have my stake on Vietnam to win with at least three match goals, while the hosts are also backed to cover a -2.5 handicap.
