The Colorado Avalanche face the Philadelphia Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena, with Nathan MacKinnon highlighted as the key difference-maker. The Avalanche, averaging 4.5 goals per game, have seen four of their five wins come by two or more goals. MacKinnon’s prolific scoring—16 points in eight games—supports predictions of another comfortable Colorado win. Artturi Lehkonen, with six goals so far, is also mentioned as a potential anytime goalscorer. The Flyers’ offense continues to struggle, making it difficult for them to compete against Colorado’s high-powered attack.

Avalanche vs Flyers Picks - MacKinnon Leads a Rout

Nathan MacKinnon will be the difference once again for the Colorado Avalanche when they breeze past the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night in the NHL.

The Colorado Avalanche visit the Philadelphia Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena at 7 p.m. ET. Colorado have 11 points from eight games and score 4.5 goals a night, while Philadelphia picked up their first win of the season on Saturday and sit at 1-6-3.

I'm backing the Avalanche on the puck line because the price is far better than the moneyline and the matchup fits. Four of Colorado's five wins have come by two or more goals, and four of Philadelphia's losses have gone the same way, including a 7-0 home defeat to Pittsburgh on opening night.

MacKinnon at 2+ points is the bet I like most in this game. He has 16 points in eight games, he's had multi-point nights in four of his last five, and Philadelphia are giving up 32.9 shots a game.

Lehkonen is my long shot. He has six goals in eight games, he scored twice on Friday, and he's playing next to MacKinnon and Martin Necas.

  • Philadelphia are scoring 1.4 goals a game, the lowest rate in the NHL.
  • Four of Colorado's five wins have come by two or more goals.
  • MacKinnon has 16 points in eight games and 2+ points in four of his last five.
  • Lehkonen has six goals in eight games, including two on Friday.

Avalanche Form

Colorado's offence is carrying them. They're scoring 4.5 goals a game and outshooting opponents 30.8 to 25.9 a night, and when they win, they usually win comfortably.

Friday's 5-2 win over Pittsburgh started badly, with the Penguins scoring twice in 29 seconds midway through the first. Lehkonen then scored on either side of the first intermission, Colorado ran off five straight goals, and MacKinnon finished with a goal and three assists. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 29 of 31, a big step up after the Avalanche lost a shootout to Dallas two nights earlier.

Colorado are still without Nicolas Roy, Logan O'Connor and Zachary L'Heureux, who are all listed out until later this week in CBS Sports' game preview, along with Georgii Merkulov.

Flyers Form

Scoring is the problem in Philadelphia. The Flyers have 14 goals in 10 games, they're averaging just 21.2 shots a night, and their power play has scored three times in 29 chances.

Saturday's 3-1 win over Ottawa came from Dan Vladar, who stopped 25 of 26. Matvei Michkov set up Porter Martone's equaliser and then scored the winner on the power play late in the second. In Detroit two nights earlier, Michkov scored first, but the Flyers managed only 18 shots and lost 2-1 to Andrew Copp's goal with under five minutes left.

Travis Konecny and Rasmus Ristolainen are out and Owen Tippett and Cam York are day-to-day, according to ESPN's game preview, while Nikita Grebenkin is out until February.

Verdict

Avalanche to win by two or more, with Nathan MacKinnon to record 2+ points and Artturi Lehkonen to score as my long shot. Philadelphia's goaltending has held up, but they don't create enough to keep pace with this Colorado attack.
