Bayern Finding Ways to Win Tight Games
Bayern Munich have looked like the strongest team in Germany throughout the entire season, finishing top of the Bundesliga regular-season standings with an impressive 29-5 record.
The Bavarians had no problems in the quarterfinals, sweeping Trier 3-0. They were particularly convincing in Game 3 on the road, cruising to a 99-62 victory after dominating from start to finish. Oscar Da Silva led the offense with 20 points and five rebounds.
Svetislav Pesic’s side had plenty of difficulties in Game 1 against Bonn, entering the final quarter eight points behind before producing a strong comeback to secure an 83-78 victory. Da Silva once again led the scoring with 13 points, while Nenad Dimitrijevic played a crucial role by recording a double-double of 14 assists and 10 points.
Bonn Need Better Shooting to Level the Series
Bonn finished the regular season in 4th place with a 21-13 record. Their final league game ended in a heavy 102-83 defeat against Bamberg, although that result had no impact on their playoff position.
Unlike Bayern, Bonn were pushed to the limit in the quarterfinals and eventually eliminated Wurzburg 3-2 after a highly competitive series. The deciding Game 5 was played at home, where they struggled badly offensively in the first half, scoring just 22 points before recovering after the break to secure a dramatic 66-63 victory. Michael Kessens starred with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Good work on the boards was not enough in Game 1 against Bayern, as poor shooting efficiency proved costly. Bonn converted just 39% of their field-goal attempts, while Joel-Sadu Aminu was the only player to reach double digits, finishing with 23 points.
