Cairns Taipans vs New Zealand Breakers Betting Tips – Expert Predictions

The New Zealand Breakers are the most consistant of the 4-4 teams and are expected to get the victory when they head to North Queensland to take on the Cairns Taipans.

The Breakers have won 10 of their last 11 meetings with Cairns, including a comfortable 98-75 victory earlier this season.

With the Taipans conceding at least 91 points in each of their last five games, New Zealand's league-leading three-point shooting could cause them plenty of headaches.

We're also backing Sam Mennenga to score 25+ points after the Breakers forward dropped 36 against Tasmania and 27 against Sydney in his last two outings. Carlin Davison has been pulling the strings beautifully with 25 assists across those same games, making his 10+ assists market another attractive option.

Cairns have been difficult to predict this season, but their defensive numbers suggest the Breakers should get plenty of opportunities to dictate proceedings.

Key Stats

  • New Zealand have won 10 of their last 11 meetings with Cairns.
  • The Breakers have won their last three encounters by an average of 24 points.
  • Cairns have conceded 91+ points in five consecutive games.
  • New Zealand lead the NBL in three-point shooting at 40.9%.
  • Sam Mennenga has scored 27 and 36 points in his last two games.
  • Carlin Davison has recorded 14 and 11 assists in his last two appearances.

Cairns Taipans Form

Cairns have endured an inconsistent 4-4 start to the season, averaging 90.5 points per game while conceding 97.5, ranking eighth defensively.

The Taipans suffered a heavy 115-83 defeat to South East Melbourne in their latest outing, ending a three-game winning streak against Illawarra, Brisbane and Melbourne United.

Jack McVeigh remains a key scoring option, while Keanu Pinder and Malique Lewis provide an important presence inside. However, Cairns rank last in the NBL for rebounds per game at just 35.1.

New Zealand Breakers Form

New Zealand have also started the season 4-4, but their defensive numbers have been more encouraging, conceding just 89.0 points per game.

The Breakers narrowly lost 98-92 to Tasmania after beating Sydney 102-101, with Sam Mennenga starring in both contests. The forward scored 36 points against the JackJumpers after dropping 27 against the Kings.

Carlin Davison has been equally impressive as a playmaker, recording 11 and 14 assists in those games, while New Zealand lead the NBL in three-point shooting at 40.9%.

Verdict

New Zealand's head-to-head dominance and superior defensive numbers make Breakers -1 our best bet. We're also backing Sam Mennenga 25+ points and Carlin Davison 10+ assists to continue their excellent recent form.
