The ABA League finals get underway on Thursday as regular-season winners Dubai take on Partizan in a highly anticipated best-of-five series. Dubai have impressed throughout their debut campaign and now have the chance to crown it with a title, while Partizan arrive full of confidence after eliminating Crvena Zvezda in the semifinals.
Dubai Looking to Capitalize on Home Court
After their solid run in their debut EuroLeague campaign, Dubai redirected full focus to the ABA League where they finished 1st in the regular season.
After cruising past Spartak Subotica 2-0 in the quarterfinals, the UAE side were properly challenged by Montenegrin champions Buducnost in the semifinals, needing three games to advance.
They had full control from start to finish in the deciding Game 3, which was played on a neutral court in Bosnia & Herzegovina, claiming a convincing 103-77 victory after winning all four quarters. Dubai landed 16 of 36 three-point attempts, while Dzanan Musa led the scoring with 18 points.
Partizan Riding High After Derby Success
Partizan are coming off a shocking 92-79 defeat to FMP Zeleznik which saw them eliminated from the Serbian Superleague semifinals. They shot just 42% from the field and were heavily outplayed on the boards, losing the rebounding battle 29-40.
However, Zeljko Obradovic’s side have looked far more convincing in the ABA League playoffs. They produced two dominant performances against KK Bosna in the quarterfinals, winning 81-73 at home and 87-73 in Sarajevo.
Partizan then locked horns with eternal rivals Crvena Zvezda and defied the odds by reaching the grand finals in just two games, winning 100-94 in Belgrade before following up with an 89-78 road victory.
