The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs open their season with San Antonio tipped to maintain their recent dominance. The Under 231.5 total points market is favored, as seven of the last ten meetings have hit the under, reflecting both teams' defensive strength and low tempo. San Antonio leads the all-time series and won their last encounter, while OKC has undergone minor roster changes. The Spurs, fresh off an NBA Finals appearance, have retained core players and added experience. The article concludes by leaning towards both the Under and a Spurs win.

The Under is tipped to cash in this season-opening clash of Western Conference rivals.

Neither Oklahoma City nor San Antonio play with much tempo, and these two teams are expected to be among the league’s best defensive groups in 2026/27.

Key Numbers – Will Under Hit Again In Latest Meeting?

  • 7 of the previous 10 meetings have produced under 231.5 total points
  • The Under cashed in 3 of the 5 regular season meetings in 2025/26
  • The Under hit in 31 of San Antonio’s 52 home games last season
  • San Antonio Spurs have won 6 of the last 10 meetings

Oklahoma City Thunder Went 1-4 In Pre-Season

Oklahoma City go into their regular season opener having lost four of their five pre-season outings.

The Thunder lost 116-110 to New Orleans, 128-126 to Milwaukee and 113-110 at Atlanta, before failing to follow up a 114-112 victory over Indiana as they lost 116-89 in Houston.

They now enter the new campaign having resisted any temptation to make blockbuster moves.

Oklahoma City instead took steps to lock up existing roster members, re-signing Isaiah Hartenstein, Kenrich Williams and Cason Wallace.

There were some notable exits for the Thunder though, as the likes of Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins all moved on.

San Antonio Spurs Went 2-3 In Pre-Season

San Antonio enter the new campaign having rebounded from three consecutive defeats with back-to-back wins to close out the pre-season.

The Spurs lost 123-116 to Atlanta, 102-98 at Phoenix and 119-109 at Utah, before wrapping up their preparations with home wins against Phoenix, 123-103, and Sacramento, 126-97.

Having gone close to winning the championship last season, losing to New York in the NBA Finals, they wasted no time in tying down two key pieces.

Victor Wembanyama signed a five-year contract extension with San Antonio, while Julian Champagnie and Jordan McLaughlin also signed new deals.

The Spurs also moved to bring more veteran presence to the roster, signing Tobias Harris.

Verdict

These two teams have repeatedly gone under this number in recent meetings, and that is no surprise given the defensive talent on show.

More of the same is expected here, and we are also leaning towards San Antonio once again getting the better of a Thunder team they beat in last season’s playoffs.
