Dplus KIA met with G2 Esports once before this year, during the Esports World Cup, when they won 2-0. The rematch is expected to play out similarly, with DK entering the game as favourites.

While this seems like a fair assessment, it is also fair to question how big of a favourites Dplus KIA should be. On paper, they’re better, but G2 Esports appear to be a team that has an incredible ceiling and can challenge any team at LoL Worlds on a good day.

G2 Esports Are an Enigma

G2 Esports enter LoL Worlds as the LoL EMEA Championship (LEC) champions. However, while G2 had a dominant run during the summer playoffs, they’ve had a questionable stretch during the regular season and most of the year.

It has become expected of G2, who tend to sandbag during the regular season, only to turn it up in the playoffs. However, even then, it is hard to be overly optimistic about a team that’s looked iffy for most of the year.

G2 are a bit of an enigma: a squad with a very high ceiling, but it's hard to tell whether they’ll reach it. Still arguably the best Western team, but consistency could be an issue.

Dplus KIA Have Potential

Dplus KIA are quite the opposite of G2 Esports in terms of what they showed during the year. They’ve looked outstanding during the LCK Summer regular season, but flopped in the playoffs.

So while DK managed to keep up with Hanwha Life Esports and Gen.G for most of the split, they eventually ran out of steam.

Dplus KIA’s main issue seems to be poor mid-game decision-making, which is something they’ll have to address. On a more positive note, ShowMaker has been incredible in the final split of the year and has looked in his best shape since 2020.

This is still a highly experienced roster with a high ceiling, and a team that can surprise.

Dplus KIA enter this match as favourites, which makes sense, as they hail from a stronger region and have had a much better run during the summer split regular season.

However, they’ve also had a long layoff, so rust could be an issue.

Both teams have had their ups and downs in the final split of the season, and they both have a very high ceiling. Both are also somewhat inconsistent.

Given the uncertainties about the squads’ form and the ring rust, this looks like a 50/50 game at best. Considering that, G2 are a more appealing pick.
