This is an interesting game, mainly because it’s hard to gauge how strong Team Secret Whales are. They’re clearly the best team from LoL Championship Pacific (LCP), but considering the Pacific league isn’t particularly strong, TSW are a bit of an enigma.

LYON have shown good things earlier this year, so the potential is there. But their form ahead of LoL Worlds has been lacking, making it fair to question the North American squad and their chances of making it far.

Team Secret Whales Are Somewhat Unproven

Team Secret Whales are the clear best team from the Pacific region. While they do not appear to be as potent as some Pacific teams of the past, TSW have a very capable roster, with players who have past international experience – which can take them very far.

The big question with Team Secret Whales is how good they actually are against international opposition, considering the LCP hasn’t been a very strong league this year. The lack of quality opposition domestically could harm TSW, and it also makes it hard to say how strong this squad is.

But from what they’ve shown, TSW are a strong mid-table team at LoL Worlds who should be able to handle all but the elite few.

LYON Have to Step Up

LYON have had a solid season. They won LCS Lock-In and LCS Spring, and had a strong showing at the Mid-Season Invitational, where they placed third following a close loss to Hanwha Life Esports.

However, at the Esports World Cup, LYON did not impress as they crashed out in 13th-16th place, and they even had some wrinkles in the LCS Summer. So despite all the success, LYON are not in the best shape ahead of the LoL World Championship, so it is fair to feel some doubts about their chances of making it far.

On the other hand, LYON have a high ceiling – as shown before – so it’s really only a question of whether LYON will find their rhythm.

Date	Event	Opponent	Result
October 4	LCS 2026 Summer	Team Liquid	1-3 (L)
October 3	LCS 2026 Summer	Cloud9	3-1 (W)

Verdict

Team Secret Whales v LYON

LYON appear to be the better team, due to their strong performances earlier in the year. But their summer form has been lacking, so LYON, while a strong team, has a lot to prove at LoL Worlds.

Team Secret Whales are a bit of an enigma as they’ve not had a chance to play many great teams this season. However, the eye test proves that they’re up to par with all non-elite teams.

This should be closer to 50/50 than anything else. Team Secret Whales, as underdogs, are an inviting pick.
