Hanwha Life Esports and G2 Esports will clash in the League of Legends MSI 2026 upper bracket, with HLE entering as favorites after a dominant first-round showing. G2, fresh off a stunning comeback over Top Esports, showcase impressive versatility and could challenge HLE, especially if they exploit the Korean team's late-game inconsistencies. While HLE is predicted to win, G2's adaptability makes the outcome less certain. Expect a competitive showdown that could go the distance.

G2 Esports stunned Top Esports with a reverse-sweep on Friday and earned their spot in the second round, where they’ll take on what many consider to be one of the current strongest teams in the world.
Unlike G2, who had to work hard to win their first game, Hanwha Life Esports have had a much easier draw, having had to face Team Secret Whales. While the latter failed to properly test HLE, the Koreans have shown enough this split to earn the tag of favourites.
The big question, however, is how big a favourite should Hanwha Life Esports be and whether they can avoid making the usual mistakes against a team that are very good at punishing their opponents’ mishaps.

- G2 Esports have demonstrated their strength in Round 1
- HLE should win, but they’re not without flaws

Hanwha Life Esports Are Not Invincible
Hanwha Life Esports entered MSI as one of the main favourites to win the entire event, and they’ve yet to show anything that would make anyone doubt their chances to do so.
The Korean no.1 seed kicked off the tournament with a convincing 3-0 sweep of Team Secret Whales. While the final map of the series was somewhat close for the first few minutes, HLE emerged as the clear better team. Even though Hanwha Life Esports’ sweep of TSW is something to consider, it also holds little weight, mainly due to the level of opponents they had to face.
A better indication of HLE’s strength is their performance in the LoL Champions Korea (LCK). While for the most part, they’ve impressed, Hanwha Life Esports have also had their iffy moments – mainly in the late game, where they tend to make silly mistakes.
Very strong, but not invincible.

G2 Esports Are Very Versatile
G2 Esports cooked up a huge 3-2 victory against Top Esports in the first round of the bracket stage, after going 0-2 down in the series. Losing two maps is not a good look, but G2 managed to stabilise and adjust their game plan, which is not something to ignore.
After getting stomped on the first two maps, G2 pivoted away from their scaling composition and more into early-game compositions. That allowed them to shut down Top Esports.
Map four was a masterclass from G2, who outplayed Top Esports in teamfights and found excellent openings to attack their backline.
Caps, in particular, was outstanding, but the main point to take from that map is G2’s approach, which was every methodical, and they avoided taking any major risks. Map five played out similarly, with G2 executing better, ultimately running over Top Esports.

Verdict
Hanwha Life Esports are expected to win, but G2 Esports are no pushovers. And their win over Top Esports proved just that.
The game showcased how adaptable and versatile G2 Esports can be, and that is, besides their deep map pool, G2’s biggest strength.
The big question is how G2 will handle Hanwha Life Esports’ individual players, namely their jungler, Kanavi. However, as a unit, G2 Esports have shown enough to believe that they can force a closer game.

While punishing a Korean team will not be as easy as punishing an LPL team, G2 are no strangers to pulling out a unique draft or unconventional approach, which can catch any team off guard.
