PARI Universe is scheduled to kick off on Thursday, October 22, and run for just over one week, culminating with the grand finals on Sunday, November 1.

The entire event will play out online and bridge the gap between BLAST SLAM VIII and BLAST SLAM IX, as one of the biggest and most prestigious tournaments of the year.

PARI Universe will feature many big names from the upper echelons of competitive Dota 2, including Team Yandex, Team Spirit, and PARIVISION, whom top-rated bookmakers have listed as the main favourites to make a run for the trophy.

However, with other contenders in the mix, none of the top dogs will have an easy time clawing their way to the top.

PARI Universe Format

PARI Universe kicks off on Thursday, October 22, and runs for 11 days, concluding on Sunday, November 1.

The event will play out in two stages, starting with the group stage, where all 10 teams will be divided into two single round-robin groups of five. All group-stage games are best-of-three (BO3), with the top four teams per group advancing to the playoffs.

PARI Universe playoffs are a double-elimination bracket with all matches played as best-of-three (BO3), except the grand finals, which are best-of-five (BO5).

Of the 10 teams attending PARI Universe, only a few are listed as serious title contenders by top-rated esports bookmakers.

While many of the outsiders have a realistic chance of shaking up the balance of power, Team Yandex, Team Spirit, and PARIVISION are rightly listed as the top dogs.

Team Yandex are listed as the team to beat at PARI Universe, and for good reason. They’re the most in-form team in the world. They have won three Tier-1 tournaments this year and haven't placed lower than third in their last five.

Yandex enter PARI Universe fresh off a title run at BLAST SLAM VIII, adding to their gold medal from PGL Wallachia Season 9 in September. Having shown they can handle any team in the world and perform in clutch moments, Yandex will enter PARI Universe with high expectations.

PARIVISION haven’t won as many tournaments as Yandex of late, but they’ve left a very positive mark. PARIVISION won the Esports World Cup in July, placed second at The International, and third in BLAST SLAM VIII.

Earlier in the year, they also won PREMIER SERIES, 1win Essence I, and DreamLeague Season 29, making PARIVISION one of the most decorated Dota 2 teams of the year. Yet much like PARIVISION, the next strong contender, Team Spirit, have been making serious noise.

Team Spirit have been relatively quiet this year, but turned up at The International and hoisted their second Aegis of Champions.

To prove their TI run wasn't a fluke, Spirit also placed second at the recently finished BLAST SLAM VIII and will look to add another podium finish at PARI Universe.

The gap between the top three teams and the rest is notable; however, Team Liquid deserve a mention.

Liquid have only two events this season, including BLAST SLAM VI in February and 1win Essence II in August. However, they did well at The International (fifth-sixth).

At BLAST SLAM VIII, Liquid struggled and crashed out early. They’ve since made some roster changes and brought in Malr1ne, who could help Liquid find a new level. Whether that’ll happen remains to be seen, but it is worth keeping an eye on the new-look roster.
