Club America host Guadalajara in a crucial Liga MX Apertura clash at Estadio Azteca. The recent form favors Guadalajara, who are unbeaten in their last seven matches and boast impressive defensive stats. While Club America lead the historical head-to-head, it's Chivas who have the upper hand in recent encounters, including wins at this venue. Both sides tend to play out low-scoring matches—under 2.5 goals in most recent derbies. The recommendation is to back Guadalajara double chance with under 2.5 total goals expected.

Club America vs Guadalajara Predictions

Club America and Guadalajara meet at Estadio Azteca in the Liga MX Apertura on Sunday.

The visitors are in better form, while they also boast a strong recent record in what is often a low-scoring derby contest.

Guadalajara double chance is my best bet, and I also expect fewer than three goals scored.

Tight Contest Expected

  • Club America failed to win their last 3 matches
  • Club America have seen under 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 10 matches against Guadalajara
  • Guadalajara are unbeaten in 5 of their last 6 matches against Club America (Liga MX)
  • Guadalajara are unbeaten in their last 7 matches (Liga MX)
  • Guadalajara have seen under 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 away matches (Liga MX)

Club America Lead Guadalajara in Recent H2H Record

Club America and Guadalajara have met on eighteen occasions since 2020. Club America won ten games while Guadalajara secured five victories. Three games finished level.

Guadalajara have had the better of recent meetings, with three wins and two draws collected from their last six encounters.

Club America Look to Recover

Club America return to Estadio Azteca after a wild 4-3 defeat against Cruz Azul last weekend.

Trailing 3-0 after a disastrous first half, the visitors improved after the interval, but fell short on what would have been a remarkable comeback.

Stoppage-time goals from Miguel Borja and Oscar Perea added respectability to a frustrating road reversal.

Club America finished with more possession, a higher xG total of 2.30 and twenty-eight shots compared to Cruz Azul's 2.14 xG and sixteen efforts on goal.

Guillermo Almada’s side have endured a difficult period. Las Aguilas lost to Monterrey on penalties in the Leagues Cup semi-final before suffering a 1-0 defeat against Leon in the third-place playoff.

That defeat cost them qualification for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Past encounters against Guadalajara point to a likely tight affair this weekend. An average of just 1.3 goals per game was scored in their ten previous encounters since March 2024.

Guadalajara Maintain Excellent Form

Guadalajara travel to the capital after an impressive 3-0 home victory against Pumas on Monday.

Santiago Sandoval scored twice before Bryan Gonzalez completed a convincing win for Chivas.

Gabriel Milito’s men were clinical in front of goal, scoring from just eight shots despite recording a modest xG total of 0.83.

Defensively strong, Guadalajara gave up no big chances in an efficient display at Estadio Akron.

An outstanding run of form in the past month has seen the visitors win five and draw one of six matches. CD scored 12 goals while winning four of their five most recent Liga MX matches.

A strong defence has been the cornerstone of their recent success. Milto’s side kept a clean sheet in three of their last five games, while they conceded only six goals in eight league fixtures this season.

Recent results against Club America should add to Chivas’s confidence this weekend. Milto’s men won both of their last two Liga MX matches, including a 2-1 win at this venue last year.

Club America vs Guadalajara Team News

Club America: (4-2-3-1) Rodolfo Cota; Dagoberto Espinoza, Israel Reyes, Ramon Juarez, Kevin Alvarez; Erick Sanchez, Alan Cervantes; Isaias Violante, Raphael Veiga, Brian Rodriguez; Henry Martin.

Club America boss Almada is unable to call on two first-team players this weekend.

Raul Zuniga and Victor Davila are both expected to remain sidelined.

Mexico international Henry Martin is set to spearhead the America attack. The 33-year-old has scored three goals in six Liga MX appearances this season.

Guadalajara: (3-4-2-1) Raul Rangel; Daniel Aguirre, Diego Campillo, Luis Romo; Roberto Alvarado, Omar Govea, Ruben Gonzalez, Hugo Camberos; Santiago Sandoval, Ricardo Marin; Angel Sepulveda.

Guadalajara boss Milito is likely to name the same side that eased past Pumas earlier this week.

Ricardo Marin will feature in a three-pronged attack for the visitors. The 26-year-old has registered six goal contributions this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

Jose Castillo is the only confirmed injury concern for the in-form visitors

Verdict

Recent matches between these Liga MX rivals have been tight, and we can expect another keenly contested and likely low-scoring affair.

I fancy the visitors to win or draw in a match set to see under 2.5 goals scored.
