Aston Villa Have Momentum

Aston Villa are in strong form and have lost just one of their last seven fixtures in all competitions. The Villans won three matches in a row, beating Lille 2-0, West Ham 2-0 and Bologna 3-1 away.

That run ended with a 1-1 away draw against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. It was an even contest and Villa had 1.02-1.15 XG.

Unai Emery’s side continued their solid run of recent form with a 4-0 home triumph over Bologna. Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers scored before half time and Ezri Konsa added a late fourth.

Sunderland Improving Away

Sunderland are comfortably in the Premier League’s mid-table and are two points off the top six. The Black Cats are undefeated in four of their last five league matches, winning three.

Regis Le Bris’ side have been solid on the road lately, gaining seven points from three games. Sunderland started that run with a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth before wins at Leeds 1-0 and Newcastle 2-1.

The Black Cats made a winning return from the international break and beat Tottenham 1-0 at home. Nordi Mukiele struck the winner after 61 minutes and Sunderland were on top with 1.33-0.83 XG.

Sunderland (4-2-3-1): Robin Roefs; Nordi Mukiele, Luke O'Nien, Omar Alderete, Reinildo Mandava; Granit Xhaka, Noah Sadiki; Chris Rigg, Habib Diarra, Enzo Le Fee; Brian Brobbey

Attackers Jocelin Ta Bi, Romaine Mundle and Bertrand Traore and goalkeeper Simon Moore won’t feature due to injury.

Winger Nilson Angulo and defender Dan Ballard are likely to return here after missing the Tottenham game. Regis Le Bris gave a positive update on the pair and said, “For Dan Ballard and Nilson Angulo, they are close to returning.”

Verdict

Aston Villa look in good shape after an upturn in form and Sunderland have improved on the road. These well-matched sides can play out a Premier League draw on Sunday.
