Newcastle United are currently undergoing a challenging transition period under new manager Jaissle, which has resulted in a decline in both form and player confidence. In contrast, Liverpool is in a strong position to capitalize on Newcastle's struggles and is favored to win their Premier League clash. Betting odds support a Liverpool victory at 1.91 for 2 units, highlighting the expectation for a positive result for Liverpool. The key recommendation is to back Liverpool, given Newcastle's current instability.

Newcastle vs Liverpool Preview

Newcastle lost key players in the transfer window and had a poor pre-season. Liverpool have plenty of quality and can secure a first Premier League win under Andoni Iraola.

Key Stats - Toon Are Out of Form

  • Newcastle have lost 2 of their last 3 matches.
  • Newcastle have lost 2 consecutive games against Liverpool.
  • Liverpool have won 3 of their last 6 games.

H2H - Reds on Top

Liverpool have a 96-51 advantage against Newcastle, alongside 45 draws.

Newcastle Need Time Under Matthias Jaissle

Newcastle saw major changes in pre-season as Eddie Howe left the club and was replaced by Matthias Jaissle. The Magpies also sold important first-team players Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

The north east outfit struggled in pre-season and failed to win in five of their last six matches. Newcastle fell to defeats against Bristol City 4-1, Everton 3-1 and Bayer Leverkusen 2-1.

Jaissle’s side finished pre-season with a 1-1 home draw against Strasbourg. Newcastle faced 19 shots and William Osula scored first before the Toon conceded in the 69th minute.

Iraola’s Liverpool Taking Shape

Andoni Iraola replaced Arne Slot as Liverpool manager in June and oversaw a decent pre-season.

The Reds comfortably won their opening two games in the Premier League Summer Series. They thrashed Sunderland 4-2 and beat Wrexham 1-0 before a 4-2 loss to Leeds.

Liverpool then fell to a 3-2 home defeat against Monaco and replied with a 0-0 draw with Como.

The Merseysiders beat Como 2-0 in the second match of the double-header fixture on Sunday. Liverpool had 1.59-0.61 XG and goals from Cody Gakpo and Jeremy Jacquet secured the victory.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Lukas Hornicek; Amar Dedic, Sven Botman, Malick Thiaw, Lewis Hall; Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba; Anthony Elanga, Nick Woltemade, Harvey Barnes; Yoane Wissa

Midfielder Joelinton and full-back Tino Livramento are injured and unavailable.

Defenders Dan Burn and Lewis Miley could miss out due to fitness concerns. Matthias Jaissle was cautious about the duo's availability for Liverpool and said:

"I would say we need to be smart when it comes to the load management but it looks good for now that there is progress to see and we will need to see now how long they will be on the pitch."

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Jeremie Frimpong, Jeremy Jacquet, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez; Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch; Rio Ngumoha, Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo; Alexander Isak

Defenders Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley are sidelined with long-term injuries.

Hugo Ekitike is also ruled out with an ACL injury. Andoni Iraola explained that the striker still has a long recovery period and said, “We are talking about months and still a lot of time out.”

Verdict

Newcastle are in a period of transition and will take time to adapt under Jaissle. The Toon are lacking form and confidence and Liverpool can take advantage with a Premier League victory.
