Mamelodi Sundowns are tipped to overcome Wiliete in the CAF Champions League second leg following a 0-0 first-leg draw in Angola. Sundowns enter as favourites, boasting eight wins in their last ten matches and strong home form. Key injuries are noted for Sundowns, but their defensive record and Wiliete’s recent struggles in front of goal lead to the main conclusion: Sundowns are likely to win to nil and cover the -1 handicap.

Sundowns are likely to have far too much for Wiliete. I’m backing a win to zero and on the -1 handicap.

Key Stats - Win to Nil on the Cards

  • Mamelodi Sundowns have won 8 of their last 10 matches.
  • Mamelodi Sundowns have won 8 of their last 9 home matches.
  • Mamelodi Sundowns have kept 4 clean sheets in their last 6 home matches.
  • Wiliete have failed to score in their last 2 matches.

One Previous Meeting

These clubs met for the first time last Sunday.

The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw in Angola in a heated affair.

Sundowns have Eight Wins in Last 10 Matches

Sundowns have won eight of their last ten matches. They’ve already won two trophies this season and are the holders of the CAF Champions League.

A late goal rescued a  1-1 draw at Chippa United before beating Saudi giants Al Ahli 2-1 in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. A 2-0 win followed over Orlando Pirates in the MTN 8 Final with a 6-1 ‘big chance’ count over Pirates in that victory.

A resounding 4-1 win followed in the league against Richards Bay. Downs went to Namibia last Sunday and eked out a 0-0 draw in the first leg against Wiliete.

Wiliete Seven Wins in Nine Matches this Season

Wiliete finished second in Angola’s Girabola last season, a full 10 points behind Petro de Luanda. They sit top of the table so far this term after six rounds of action.

After three league wins to start the campaign, they beat Seychellois side Foresters FC 5-0 on aggregate in the first round of CAF Champions League qualifying.

Two more league wins followed, before dropping points in a 0-0 draw at Kabuscorp. Last weekend, they drew 0-0 at home to Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg as they barely created a single chance.

Predicted Lineups & News

Mamelodi Sundowns (4-2-3-1): Williams; Matuludi, Khoza, Ndamane, Basadien; Cele, Allende; Ndlovu, Santos, Matthews; Leon.

Sundowns have two injured defenders in Grant Kekana and Keanu Cupido. Left back Aubrey Modiba and key midfielder Teboho Mokoena are also set to miss out.

Top right back Khuliso Mudua is absent, but Ronwen Williams should be available in goal. Coach Miguel Cardoso must decide between Bathusi Aubaas and Thabo Cele to replace Mokoena.

Wiliete:

Wiliete SC is Beto Bianchi is reeling after being struck by Sundowns assistant coach Steve Komphela after alleged racist insults.

He will pick his best XI here and try to pull off a score draw in Tshwane to reach the next round.

Verdict

I see Sundowns winning to zero and on the -1 handicap.
