Rangers vs St Johnstone Predictions & Tips - Gers to Claim Low-Scoring Premiership Win
Rangers host St Johnstone at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, aiming to rebound after a draw against Dundee. Despite their recent setback, Rangers have a formidable home record with six straight wins and a dominant head-to-head history. St Johnstone, however, have proven difficult to beat and are coming off a strong run themselves. Both sides have seen low-scoring matches recently, and the article recommends a bet on Rangers to win with under 3.5 goals in the game.

Rangers vs St Johnstone Predictions
Rangers face St Johnstone at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.
The hosts are solid in Glasgow, but a tough-to-beat Saints side should provide some stiff resistance.
Rangers to win & under 3.5 goals is my preferred pick.
Rangers Backed for Home Success
- Rangers won their last 6 home matches
- Rangers have seen under 3.5 goals in 8 of their last 10 matches
- Rangers won their last 9 matches against St Johnstone
- St Johnstone have seen under 3.5 goals in 9 of their last 10 matches against Rangers
- St Johnstone have seen under 3.5 goals in their last 8 matches
Rangers Dominate H2H Record
Rangers and St Johnstone have met 20 times in competitive action since 2020. The Gers won 16 of those encounters, Saints claimed one victory while three games finished level.
Rangers Aim to Respond After Dundee Draw
Rangers return to Ibrox after a frustrating 2-2 draw at Dundee last Saturday.
Brilliant long-range efforts from Badredine Bouanani and Nicolas Raskin put the visitors ahead, but a costly mistake from Dan Neil allowed Callum Jones to equalise midway through the second half.
Rangers had more than twice as many shots as Dundee (21-10) and recorded a higher xG total (2.29-1.82) but were unable to find a winner at Dens Park.
Before last weekend’s share of the spoils, the Gers had won seven successive fixtures across all competitions. Back-to-back victories against Celtic were the undoubted highlight of a much-improved run of results.
Despite their draw at Dens, McInnes' men remain second in the division, four points behind their great city rivals.
Particularly strong at Ibrox, the Glasgow giants won their last six home fixtures, with clean sheets in four of those wins. An average of 2.25 goals per game were scored in the Gers four league fixtures in Govan.
Saints Prove Tough to Beat
St Johnstone make the trip to Glasgow after a 1-1 draw against Dundee United at McDiarmid Park last weekend.
Josh Fowler put the hosts ahead with his sixth league goal of the season, but Lyall Cameron's late equaliser secured a share of the spoils for the visitors.
The final match stats reflected an evenly matched contest. United outshot Saints 14-11, but the hosts recorded a slightly higher xG total (1.35-1.27).
Simo Valakari's side had picked up their first away league win of the season a week earlier. Fowler's penalty secured a 1-0 victory at Aberdeen.
The promoted Perth side have made an encouraging start to life back in the Premiership. Three wins and three draws from nine fixtures leave them fifth in the division, level on points with Dundee United.
A solid run of form has seen the visitors lose just one of their last six matches - a narrow 1-0 defeat against Celtic. They conceded no more than one goal in any of those six games, with just four leaked in four road fixtures.
Rangers vs St Johnstone Team News
Rangers: (4-2-3-1) Ivor Pandur; Dujon Sterling, Emmanuel Fernandez, Olwethu Makhanya, James Penrice; Dan Neil, Nicolas Raskin; Badredine Bouanani, Ryan Naderi, Djeidi Gassama; Kevin Kelsy.
Rangers manager McInnes remains unable to call on four first-team players. Lawrence Shankland, Youssef Chermiti, Cameron Devlin and Daisuke Yokota remain long-term absentees.
Venezuelan forward Kelsy is pushing for a recall after coming off the bench at Dundee.
Badredine Bouanani should retain his place after scoring on his first start for the club last weekend.
Speaking to the BBC, McInnes admitted the draw with Dundee felt like a defeat after the Gers failed to hold on to their lead:
"We have to play for a bit more than we did second half to see the game out."
"The effort was there, I think the fans believe in this team, as I do, and I think the team believes so it's a disappointed dressing room as it feels like a defeat, and that is the way it should feel."
St Johnstone: (4-2-3-1) Toby Steward; Liam Smith, Daniel Finlayson, Cheick Diabate, Enes Alic; Reece McAlear, Jason Holt; Sam Stanton, Joel Cotterill, Taylor Steven; Josh Fowler.
Saints boss Valakari has just one selection issue to consider this week. James Fowler is doubtful to feature after being forced off against Dundee United due to illness.
Ruari Paton is an option to lead the attack if Fowler fails to recover
.
Zach Mitchell remains sidelined with a knee injury.
Valakari felt Saints needed to be more ruthless in last week’s draw with Dundee United.
"It was a good football match. United had their moments and played some good football; it was difficult to get close to them.
"They have players that are in good places, but at the same time we had our moments.
"The goal we scored was a beautiful goal, and it changed the game a little bit, so it was a question of whether we could hold until the end.”
Verdict
Rangers' strong record at Ibrox should help them return to winning ways, but a tough-to-beat Saints side are unlikely to make it easy.
Rangers to win & under 3.5 goals is my best bet.
