Iceland were one of the biggest surprise packages in the first qualifying stage, where everyone expected them to finish last, but they won three games, just enough to advance.

The most impressive performance came in the first round, beating Italy 81-76 on the road, while the deciding victory was earned in round number six against Great Britain, winning 88-86 in quite dramatic fashion.

Besides putting up good resistance in the first quarter, they didn't offer much on Friday in Belgrade, suffering a heavy 102-73 defeat to Serbia. Veteran Marin Hermannsson was their top performer here with 18 points and 9/12 FG shooting.

Turkey Maintaining Perfect Record

Turkey were one of the best performers in the previous FIBA World Championship 2027 qualifying phase, sitting top of the table with an impressive 7-0 record.

The Crescent Stars defeated Switzerland, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia twice in the first qualifying stage, where their biggest star Alperen Sengun delivered outstanding numbers.

He wasn't available for the premiere match in the second phase against Lithuania on Friday, but Turkey had zero problems winning this encounter 94-66. Cedi Osman was named man of the match with 22 points and six rebounds.

Verdict

Iceland v Turkey

Iceland looked solid for around 20 minutes against heavy favorites Serbia so I expect them to put up a decent fight here. Turkey miss a couple of big names, so a home win in a +20.5 handicap is the best bet.
