Group I is one of the tightest in the World Championship 2027 qualifiers, where every single point matters. On paper, Montenegro are given slightly better chances to win this clash in Podgorica.

Montenegro Looking for a Reaction

Montenegro wrapped up the first phase with back-to-back victories against Portugal 72-68 and Romania 65-64 in July, then also got their spirits up with a recent 85-78 win over Slovenia in a friendly last week.

The Brave Falcons had a disastrous start to the second phase, falling behind against Georgia on Friday and never recovering, registering a convincing 101-74 loss. Their shooting was at a solid 48% here, but they had a 16-3 turnover disadvantage.

Montenegro currently share 3rd place in Group I with two more teams, Portugal and Georgia, all three holding a 4-3 record.

Ukraine Building Confidence

Ukraine have made just one appearance at the World Championship, in 2014, but are on a great path to punch their ticket to Qatar in the upcoming months.

The Blue and Yellows are currently holding second place in Group I with a record of five victories and two defeats, causing an upset on Friday by taking down Greece 82-76 on a neutral court in Riga.

Both sides had very similar shooting percentages here, but Oleksandar Kovilar's late three-pointers made the difference as he finished as the top scorer with 18 points. The team's biggest star, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, had a disastrous night with 3/17 FG shooting.
