Both teams caused upsets in the first round of play. Movistar KOI crushed Bilibili Gaming, whereas CTBC Flying Oyster defeated Team Liquid. While KOI had to deal with a stronger opponent, CFO also showed great things, so they are not to be underestimated.
On paper, Movistar KOI look like the better team, but they are also known to be extremely volatile and unpredictable, making it hard to side with them as favourites. CFO have enough quality to cause problems, and if they manage to execute better with leads, another upset is not unlikely.

CTBC Flying Oyster With More to Prove
CTBC Flying Oyster caused quite an upset in the first round of 2026 LoL Worlds, when they upset Team Liquid. It was a surprisingly good performance from the LCP representatives, and especially jungler Shad0w, who had a monstrous performance and arguably solo-carried CFO to victory.
A few early plays led to a snowball effect which Team Liquid were unable to stop. CFO did make a few misplays, which allowed Team Liquid to get back into the game and tie the match at around the 30-minute mark. The game was eventually decided with an Elder fight.
It was a very close game, which, considering CFO’s start, isn’t ideal. CTBC Flying Oyster should’ve controlled the game after a strong early game, but they got a bit overconfident at times and almost paid the price. A win is still a win.

Movistar KOI Are a Bit Unpredictable
Movistar KOI cooked up a major upset on the first day of the LoL Worlds Swiss Stage, when they took down China’s Bilibili Gaming.
KOI’s bottom lane straight-up outplayed BLG early, and that started a snowball effect, forcing Bilibili Gaming to play catch-up. The Chinese squad effectively started throwing things at the wall, hoping something sticks – an extremely aggressive approach which did not have to be.
While there were some back-and-forth moments, BLG kept trying to catch up, and with the approach they took, KOI had an easy job capitalising on their mistakes.
It is fair to mention that KOI nearly lost the game just before the 30-minute mark following a base push and Movistar KOI’s mistake of overstaying. Eventually, the European squad came out ahead.
It was a weird ending to the game, which could’ve and should've been much smoother for KOI.

Verdict
CTBC Flying Oyster looked solid early against Team Liquid, and they had chances to stomp the LCS representatives. A win is a win, but it was not pretty.
Meanwhile, Movistar KOI dominated Bilibili Gaming after a strong opening, but they also had a few hiccups that went unpunished.
The issue with CFO here is that they should’ve looked much better against TL after their strong opening, but couldn’t do it. So it is fair to question whether KOI will manage to punish them more if the same situation happens.
On the other side, Movistar KOI should've played better too. It does not help that they are a very volatile and unpredictable team, and can easily turn into a pumpkin. This makes backing CFO as underdogs a very appealing option.
