Team Liquid Have To Show More

Team Liquid lost their opening match of the tournament against CTBC Flying Oyster, which was a somewhat unexpected result. They entered the game as favourites, but early aggression from CFO spoiled Liquid’s plans and turned the game on its head.

From the start, Liquid played catch-up and struggled to control the bot side, which let CTBC Flying Oyster scale with dragons.

CFO did end up making mistakes, which allowed Liquid to get back into the game, and they seemed well on their way to pulling ahead, before Liquid lost a critical teamfight and eventually the game.

It was a very close game, but it was closer than what it should’ve been. CFO should’ve controlled the game better after the early sequence, which made Liquid look better than they are.

Bilibili Gaming lost a chaotic game against Movistar KOI in the first round of play, largely because KOI did exactly what was needed of them and hit BLG where it hurts.

As is known, Bilibili Gaming rely a lot on gaining early leads and snowballing off that. While they’ve become extremely efficient in doing so, in games where BLG fall behind, they will struggle. And that’s exactly what happened on Friday.

KOI picked up a couple of early kills and snowballed off it, which in part was thanks to Bilibili Gaming, who got overly aggressive, trying to catch up. This led to mistakes and Bilibili Gaming digging their hole deeper.

This is still an extremely stacked roster with world-class players. But as a unit, BLG are very flawed and vulnerable when they don’t get ahead early.

BLG’s upset may seem bigger than it is, but it was mostly highlighting how vulnerable Bilibili Gaming can be when you hit them early. The big question here is whether Liquid have learned from it and will look to execute the plan as well as KOI did.

Given how flawed BLG are, this match looks closer to a coin-flip than it may appear. That is mainly because Liquid are a very good early team, so they could do the same thing as KOI.
