Dplus KIA Have a High Ceiling

Dplus KIA won their first match of LoL Worlds against G2 Esports, but it was a weird one. G2 Esports started the game strong, got themselves in an excellent position, and held a gold and kill lead for most of it. But it didn't matter, as Dplus KIA kept up the pace and stayed in the race.

Eventually, the game was decided by Dplus KIA making a few picks in key moments, winning close skirmishes and pulling ahead.

Neither team played poorly on the day, but also neither showed anything spectacular. Dplus KIA deserve praise for keeping up despite the slow start and the fact that they clawed their way back into it despite being in an unenviable position.

To some extent, it is fair to say that DK got slightly lucky, but they did move around the map well and showed great quality. The lucky part was winning some close fights; performance-wise, DK played well.

There is not much to say about T1 and their first game of the tournament, as they got paired with the weakest team of the Swiss Stage – LOS. It was a one-sided methodical stomp, a result everyone expected.

T1 did not have a chance to show much on the day, so it is fair to question whether they’ve improved or are the same T1 who looked iffy in the LCK summer split.

Their main issue has been poor transition from early to mid game, which is an area that can be punished by elite teams like Dplus KIA.

T1 are never to be underestimated, but they still have a lot to prove.

T1 are favoured to win, but that doesn’t sound right. They won against DK last time out but have looked worse throughout the summer split.

While T1 tend to perform better at LoL Worlds, and always have, they also haven’t had a chance to show it, considering they had to play LOS in the first round. Dplus KIA, on the other hand, showed a lot of good things against G2 Esports.

If we ignore the last matches and focus on what T1 and DK showed over the last two months, it is hard not to side with Dplus KIA.
