Gwangju FC vs FC Seoul Predictions & Tips - KL1 Leaders Backed in Gwangju

FC Seoul, the K League 1 leaders, are strongly backed to notch another victory as they face bottom-placed Gwangju FC. Seoul have dominated recent fixtures, winning the last four meetings, and boast an impressive away record this season (9 wins out of 13 matches). In contrast, Gwangju are enduring a poor campaign—winless in 24 of 25 games and with defensive vulnerabilities on display. With both form and history on their side, FC Seoul are clear favorites, and at least two goals are expected from the visitors.

Gwangju FC vs FC Seoul Predictions

KL1 leaders Seoul will be confident of picking up maximum points when they face bottom-of-the-table Gwangju this weekend.

Recent results and past encounters all point to a comfortable away win this weekend.

I have my stake on FC Seoul to win, with at least two goals scored.

Seoul Backed to Claim Road Victory

  • Gwangju lost 8 of their last 13 home matches (KL1)
  • Gwangju conceded an average of 2.08 goals per game in their last 25 matches (KL1)
  • Gwangju lost their last 4 matches against FC Seoul
  • FC Seoul scored an average of 3.0 goals per game in their last 4 matches against Gwangju
  • FC Seoul won 9 of their last 13 away matches (KL1)
  • FC Seoul scored an average of 2.0 goals per game in their last 13 away matches (KL1)

FC Seoul Dominate Recent Contests

Gwangju FC and FC Seoul have met on 17 occasions since 2020. Seoul won ten of those matches while Gwangju claimed five victories. Two matches finished deadlocked.

FC Seoul have dominated the fixture more recently, winning each of their last four encounters.

Gwangju Let Two-Goal Lead Slip

Gwangju return to home comforts after suffering late heartbreak in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Gangwon.

Min-Seo Moon scored twice to give Gwangju a two-goal advantage, but goals from Marko Tuci and Kim Dong-hyeon in the 88th and 89th minutes denied the visitors a rare victory.

The Griffins have endured a miserable KL1 campaign, failing to win 24 of 25 games played this season. Gwangju remain bottom of the division, with only 12 points on the board.

Defensively vulnerable and lacking quality in attack, Jeong-Gyu Lee’s side have scored just nine goals in 13 home K League 1 matches this season, while conceding 52 times in 25 league fixtures.

Recent results at Gwangju Football Stadium offer little encouragement. The Griffin lost five of their seven most recent home fixtures.

FC Seoul Pull Clear at the Top

FC Seoul make the trip south after extending their winning run to three matches with a 1-0 victory against Bucheon FC earlier this week.

Patryk Klimala scored the winner four minutes after the break as Kim Gi-dong’s side collected their third victory in the last ten days.

Seoul were good value for their win at the World Cup stadium. The Dark Red Warriors registered 19 efforts on goal with a final xG total of 2.23. Contrastingly, Bucheon’s eight shots brought up an xG of just 0.48.

Tuesday’s success came on the back of impressive 7-0 and 4-2 wins against FC Anyang and Daejeon Hana Citizen.

The K League 1 leaders are now unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 league fixtures, with eight wins picked up in that period. Seoul sit 15 points clear of champions Jeonbuk as they close in on a first Korean League title since 2016.

A strong road record has provided the platform for Seoul’s title bid. The Dark Red Warriors have won nine and lost only one of their 13 away fixtures this season.

Gwangju FC vs FC Seoul Team News

Gwangju FC: (4-4-2) Dong-Hwa Kim; Won-Jae Park, Sang-Ki Min, Seok-Hwan Jang, Joao Pedro; Adriel Ba Loua, Je-Ho Yu, Yong-Hyuk Kim, Woo-Jin Kim; Min-Seo Moon, Ji-Hoon Jeong

Head coach Jeong-Gyu Lee is likely to name the same side that picked up a point at Gangwon.

Kyoung-Rok Choi is the only confirmed injury absentee for the home side.

Min-Seo Moon is expected to start after scoring twice at Gangwon.

FC Seoul: (4-4-2) Sung-Yun Gu; Jun Choi, Yazan Abu Al-Arab, Juan Antonio, Soo-Il Park; Seung-Won Jung, Seung-Mo Lee, Hrvoje Babec, Seon-Min Moon; Anderson Oliveira, Patryk Klimala

FC Seoul remain unable to call on injured defender Sang-Min Lee.

Patryk Klimala should continue in attack after scoring the winner against Bucheon, with Anderson Oliveira expected to partner the Polish forward.

Verdict

Seoul have been superb on the road while Gwangju have the poorest home record in the division.

I have my stake on the visitors to win, with at least two goals expected at Gwangju Football Stadium.
