Greece, reeling after a surprising loss to underdog Romania, are under significant pressure as they face Portugal. The Greek team will be missing several top playmakers, including the prominent Antetokounmpo brothers, which puts them at a disadvantage. Portugal, on the other hand, also lacks strong attacking power. Given these conditions, the strongest recommendation is to bet on Under 152.5 points for this matchup.

Match Preview

Greece are under pressure to recover from a disappointing loss to Romania, arguably their worst attacking game in years, while Portugal are hoping to upset shaken Hellas.

Greece Looking to Bounce Back

Greece are topping Group B at the moment, but the public there is furious with the team’s results and performances so far, entering this final round with a 3-2 record.

Hellas opened the qualifiers with back-to-back victories against Romania 91-64 and Portugal 76-68, while their first defeat came in the third round against Montenegro 67-65 in front of the home crowd.

The Greeks responded immediately and defeated Montenegro 79-65 in Podgorica despite posting several modest numbers in the box score (63% from the free-throw line, a 41-34 rebounding deficit and 44% field-goal shooting). Vasileios Toliopoulos delivered an outstanding performance with 27 points and 10 assists.

They were expected to finish the job and seal qualification on Thursday against Romania but suffered a shocking 73-66 defeat in Oradea, mainly due to a lack of aggression (attempting just four free throws in the entire game).

Portugal Hoping for an Upset

Portugal’s chances of reaching the next stage of the FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifiers are high, but they have also failed to impress so far, sitting in 3rd place with a 2-3 record.

The start of the campaign was fantastic, claiming an upset 83-62 victory against favored Montenegro in Podgorica, then losing to big guns Greece 76-68 but bouncing back in the third round by beating Romania 99-82.

Portugal wasted a huge chance to seal a Top 3 placement in the reverse tie against Romania, losing to underdogs 101-96 due to disastrous defending. Interestingly, they had better shooting than the opposition (51% to 46%) but missed some key free throws in the final quarter.

They were tagged as slight favorites on Thursday against Montenegro on home court, had a disastrous first half (scoring just 21 points) and couldn’t recover, losing the encounter 72-68. Travante Williams was their standout performer with 21 points.

Verdict

Greece are under massive pressure after losing to underdog Romania but are missing some of their key playmakers and the Antetokounmpo brothers. Portugal’s attacking options are limited, so Under 152.5 points looks like the best bet here.
