Montenegro faces Romania in the World Cup 2027 qualifiers, promising a cautious and slow-paced matchup. Both teams have recently struggled to find the net, suggesting fans can expect a low-scoring affair. Key analysts recommend focusing on defensive strategies and a possible draw outcome. Live streaming options are available, and viewers should anticipate a tactical battle rather than a goal fest. Experts suggest betting on under 2.5 goals and preparing for a measured contest between evenly matched opponents.

Match Preview

Montenegro were victorious in the first h2h clash against Romania by five points earlier in the campaign. The stakes couldn't have been higher since the winner will advance to the next stage.

Montenegro Fighting Through Injuries

Montenegro had a lot of problems with injuries and absent players, so their current 3-2 record doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

After getting smashed by Portugal in the opening round, the Brave Falcons claimed back-to-back victories against Romania 80-75 and stunned Greece 67-65 in Athens, heavily carried by Zoran Nikolic, who scored 19 points.

They failed to replicate such an achievement a couple of days later at home, losing to Greece 79-65 with awful shooting percentages of 33%. Interestingly, Montenegro dominated the boards here with a 41-34 advantage in rebounds.

On Thursday, they were tagged as underdogs against Portugal but came back home with two huge points in a 72-68 victory, earned mostly thanks to a strong first half (36-21). Igor Drobnjak was man of the match with 18 points.

Romania Still in the Race

Romania were tagged as the biggest underdog in Group B of the FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifiers but still remain in contention to reach the next round, currently holding a 2-3 record.

They were beaten in both November appearances, first getting smashed by Greece 91-64 on the road, followed by a home 80-75 defeat to Montenegro where the opposition built a 15-point lead in the first half and never gave it away.

They started the 2026 action with a convincing 99-82 defeat to Portugal in Lisbon but responded in the rematch and earned a 101-96 home victory to keep their second phase hopes alive. Daron Russell was man of the match with 29 points.

They caused a massive upset by defeating Greece 73-66 at home on Thursday to keep their qualification hopes alive. Daron Russell landed clutch shots and scored 20 points.

Verdict

No matter who the opposition is, Montenegro never change their approach of strong defense and very slow tempo. Romania are also coming off a low-scoring affair against Greece, so Under 154.5 points looks like the best bet.
