New Zealand heads into their final FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifying match against Guam with confidence, having already secured their next-stage qualification and boasting a 3-2 record. Guam, on the other hand, remains winless and at the bottom of Group A after five defeats. A dominant win for New Zealand is expected, especially after their previous 99-67 victory over Guam. Punters are recommended to back 'Over 166.5 points' as the likely game total, with potential for high scoring from the hosts.

Match Preview

Guam were nowhere close to winning a single match in these qualifiers. Anything but a convincing win for the hosts would be a surprise in Auckland.

New Zealand Looking For a Strong Finish

New Zealand have qualified for the next stage of the FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifiers, entering this final round with a 3-2 record.

After starting the campaign with back-to-back defeats against Australia, 84-79 and 79-77, they secured their first victory in the third round in Manila, beating the Philippines 69-66, where both sides produced poor shooting performances. Samuel Mennenga played the key role for New Zealand with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

After crushing Guam 99-67, New Zealand locked horns with the Philippines for the second time in this campaign on Friday, which turned out to be the most dramatic game of the qualifiers, winning 106-102 after two overtime periods. Reuben Te Rangi was the top scorer this time with 22 points.

Guam Having a Winless Campaign

Guam have no chance of reaching the next stage, sitting bottom of Group A after losing all five encounters.

The only time they offered some resistance was in the third round at home against Australia, losing 93-80, followed by two more defeats to New Zealand 99-67 and Australia 124-54 on Friday.

Verdict

Guam scored 67 points in their first head-to-head clash against New Zealand. The hosts might also lower their intensity after establishing a comfortable lead, so I will back Over 166.5 points.
