Glentoran have found it tough in pre-season against teams of similar quality, making their Conference League Qualifier first round clash against RFS a challenging one. On the other hand, RFS have shown impressive away form recently and are tipped to carry this momentum forward. With the odds favoring RFS (1.65), the recommendation is to back RFS for an away win in this match.

Glentoran vs RFS  Preview

Glentoran’s pre-season form is unconvincing and RFS have a solid recent away record. The Latvian side can show their quality and seal a Conference League Qualifier victory.

10 Wins in 11 for RFS

  • Glentoran have lost 2 of their last 3 home matches.
  • RFS have won 10 of their last 11 away games.

H2H

This will be the first-ever match between Glentoran and RFS.

Glentoran Rarely Win

Glentoran's long-term form is poor and they have secured just one victory from their previous seven fixtures. The Glens are also winless in four of their five pre-season matches.

The Northern Irish team lost 2-1 against Caernarfon and drew 1-1 with The New Saints to start pre-season. They replied with an 8-1 win against East Belfast before losing 4-0 to Kilmarnock.

Declan Devine’s side then drew 3-3 against semi-professional opponents Dundela. Jordan Jenkins' brace and Aaron McEneff's goal weren't enough to secure the win.

RFS Are in Excellent Away Form

Latvian side RFS are undefeated in 17 of their previous 18 matches and have won 15 in that spell. The Riga outfit have also impressed on the road, securing 10 wins from their previous 11 away.

The Blues won three matches in a row, beating Ogre United 6-0, FK Liepaja 2-0 and BFC Daugavpils 3-1.

RFS' winning streak ended with a 1-1 home draw against Auda last time out. Viktors Morozs' side allowed just 0.71 XG and a late Auda own goal helped RFS to seal a point.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Glentoran (4-5-1): Andrew Mills; Ryan Cooney, Daniel Larmour, Marcus Kane, James Singleton; Joseph Thomson, Aaron McEneff; Josh Daniels, Jack Malone, Jordan Stewart; Patrick Hoban

Patrick Hoban is expected to lead against RFS. The striker scored 31 goals in 39 games in all competitions last season.

RFS (3-4-1-2): Jevgenijs Nerugals; Herdi Prenga, Ziga Lipuscek, Aleksandar Filipovic; Dmitrijs Zelenkovs, Modou Saidy, Stefan Panic, Roberts Savalnieks; Janis Ikaunieks; Ismael Diomande, Alain Kouadio

Verdict

Glentoran have struggled against similar quality opponents in pre-season and they face a tough test against RFS. The Blues can continue their strong away form and win this Conference League Qualifier first-round clash.
