Roma, currently third in Serie A, face Slovan Bratislava in their first competitive encounter amidst contrasting forms. Roma have shown resilience domestically and in Europe, highlighted by their recent performance against Real Madrid. Slovan Bratislava, despite domestic stability, have struggled in the Champions League, suffering heavy defeats to PSG and Stuttgart. With key players returning, Roma are tipped to outclass Slovan Bratislava, especially given the Slovakian side’s record of 10 consecutive group stage defeats.

Slovan Bratislava have suffered two heavy defeats in the Champions League where they appear way out of their depth.

Roma can move past their disappointing defeat to Real Madrid and win this one with ease.

Key Stats

  • Roma have won to nil in 6 of their last 10 home matches.
  • Slovan Bratislava have lost by 3+ goals in their last 2 matches (Champions League).

HTH

These clubs have met twice, in the 2011/12 Europa League qualifiers. Slovan won 1-0 in Bratislava before a 1-1 draw in Rome.

Roma Flying High in Serie A

Roma have lost just once this season, a tough defeat in the Champions League. Donyell Malen scored twice to establish a 3-1 lead against Real Madrid, but they conceded three late goals to go down 4-3 to the Spanish side.

Malen was suspended against Genoa on Saturday but Gian Piero Gasperini’s side were still too good. Santiago Castro started and scored first in a 2-0 victory that was never seriously in doubt.

The Capital club sit third in Serie A, just two points behind leaders Inter Milan and Lazio.

Slovan Struggling in the Champions League

Slovan Bratislava are doing well on the domestic front, still alive in the Slovak Cup and sitting fourth in the Liga.

Yaya Touré’s side won 3-0 at Trnava on Saturday, Rahim Ibrahim scoring two goals in his first appearance in more than a month.

Slovan has been getting outclassed in the Champions League. They had 28% possession in a 6-1 defeat at PSG before a 3-0 home defeat to Stuttgart, registering one shot on target against the German side.

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Roma (3-4-2-1) Pierluigi Gollini; Daniele Ghilardi, Konstantinos Koulierakis, Mario Hermoso; Emanuele Lulli, Marten de Roon, Niccolò Pisilli, Wesley, Manu Koné; Lorenzo Pellegrini, Rodrigo Mora; Donyell Malen

Mile Svilar has a broken finger with Pierluigi Gollini to start in goal. Midfielders Bryan Cristante and Manu Koné are out and Paulo Dybala is dealing with a calf problem.

Donyell Malen is available after suspension and should reclaim his starting spot up front.

Slovan Bratislava (4-2-3-1) Dominik Takác; Cesar Blackman, Svetozar Markovic, Kenan Bajric, Sandro Cruz; Peter Pokorny, Rahim Ibrahim; Tigran Barseghyan, Suli Camara, Cristian Martinez; Andraz Sporar

Ukrainian striker Mykola Kukharevych is injured for this one, Andraz Sporar to continue up front.

Verdict

Roma scored three goals against Real Madrid and can easily repeat the feat against Slovan Bratislava. The Slovakian side have lost 10 straight games in the league phase and are likely to be outclassed in Rome.
