Iowa State Won Season Opener

Iowa State kicked off a new era for the programme with a 38-10 victory over Southeast Missouri last weekend.

The Cyclones underwent significant changes in the offseason as they lost head coach Matt Campbell and over 20 players to Penn State.

Jimmy Rogers was named Campbell’s successor and was immediately tasked with replacing all of the talent that was lost to the Nittany Lions.

This new-look Iowa State roster got off to a winning start a week ago, but they toiled offensively on their way to a 38-10 victory over SEMO.

New starting quarterback Jaylen Raynor completed just eight passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns, while contributing 32 rushing yards and a couple of scores.

Iowa Shut Out Week 1 Opponent

Iowa enter the Cy-Hawk matchup having opened their 2026 campaign with a shutout victory.

The Hawkeyes played host to Northern Illinois last Saturday, and a victory was never in any doubt following a dominant first quarter.

They put up 20 unanswered points in the opening period, and added 13 more in the second to take a commanding 33-0 lead into the break.

Iowa then took their foot off the gas following the restart, adding just one more touchdown to wrap up a 40-0 victory.

Running back Kamari Moulton was the start of the show for the Hawkeyes, as he ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns off just 11 carries.

Verdict

Iowa State @ Iowa

Iowa State are expected to put up more resistance than Northern Illinois, but Iowa are still backed to win this comfortably.

This is the weakest Cyclones team that the Hawkeyes have faced in a while, and they can take full advantage of that.
