Brazil enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup with high hopes of reclaiming glory after a 24-year gap. Led by Carlo Ancelotti, the Seleção boasts a talented, balanced squad with experienced stars like Neymar and rising talents such as Vinícius Jr and Igor Thiago. Despite a turbulent qualification, Brazil remains among the favorites, with strong odds to reach at least the quarter-finals for a ninth consecutive tournament. Their solid defense, dynamic attack, and Ancelotti’s leadership make them a team to watch in North America this summer.

  • Brazil are targeting a 6th World Cup under Carlo Ancelotti
  • A lethal attack includes Vinicius Junior and Raphinha
  • The Seleção are well placed to reach a 9th straight quarter-final

It has been 24 years since Brazil last won the World Cup, a long drought for the five-time champions. Now managed by the calm and calculated Carlo Ancelotti, the Seleção will be hoping to return to the top in 2026.

Brazil arrive in North America with a balanced squad that contains a rock solid central defence and a lethal attack. Expectations are always high for the South American side.

World Cup Record Holders

Brazil is the only nation to have appeared in every single FIFA World Cup. They remain the most successful team in the history of the competition, picking up five titles, one more than Germany and Italy.

The previous five editions have all ended in disappointment, most notably on home soil in 2014 when they suffered an incredible 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany.

The Road to 2026 - Fifth in South America

Brazil’s qualification journey was disappointing but ultimately successful. Finishing 5th in the standings with 28 points, they ended up 10 points behind Argentina.

The campaign started with Fernando Diniz in charge. He was replaced by Dorival Júnior in January 2024, Carlo Ancelotti taking over in May 2025.

Brazil suffered six defeats including losses in Uruguay, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia. They drew twice against Venezuela and were unable to score in Ecuador, a 0-0 draw in Guayaquil.

The first friendly will be a send off from Rio de Janeiro, a clash against Panama. They then travel to Cleveland, Ohio, where Mohamed Salah and Egypt will be waiting.

The Manager - Carlo Ancelotti One of the Best

The appointment of Carlo Ancelotti marked a historic shift for the Brazilian FA. He became the first Brazilian manager to be born on foreign soil since Ramon Platero who managed the nation in 1925.
The man with more UEFA Champions League titles than any other manager has proven ability to manage superstar egos which is seen as one of his greatest assets. Since his arrival, Brazil have won five of their ten games.

The Squad - Top Quality from Top to Bottom

Carlo Ancelotti has announced a 26-man roster for the  World Cup, highlighted by a fearsome attack featuring Vinícius Junior, Raphinha and Igor Thiago.

The headline news was the inclusion of 34-year-old all-time leading scorer Neymar. The squad also features notable absences, with Chelsea forward Joao Pedro missing the final cut.

Ancelotti has experimented with a fluid 4-2-3-1 formation that alternates between a 4-3-3 and 4-4-2.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Danilo Luiz, Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhaes, Douglas Santos; Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes; Raphinha, Matheus Cunha, Vinicius Jr, Igor Thiago

Players to Watch

Alisson: Alisson started the final four qualifiers but has been battling a hamsting injury at Liverpool. Expected to recover in time, he has kept five clean sheets in nine World Cup appearances.

Gabriel and Marquinhos: Two central defenders who helped their teams reach the UEFA Champions League final, their partnership will be vital if Brazil go all the way.

Bruno Guimaraes: A permanent fixture in the qualifiers, the midfielder will want to impress before leaving Newcastle for Champions League football.

Neymar: Neymar scored two goals in Brazil's opening qualifier in 2023 before an ACL injury derailed his career. He earned a recall after regaining fitness and form at Santos, but has now been ruled out of the friendlies.

The 34-year-old could still play a big role at the World Cup, but it looks he won't be a starter in the group stage. Ancelotti clarified that he will keep Neymar in the squad, saying: "He will be with us at the World Cup, with no possibility of being released."
Vinícius Jr: Now in his absolute prime at 25, Vini will want to move past a turbulent season at Real Madrid. Has three goals in his past 12 appearances for Brazil but is capable of breaking out on the big stage.

Igor Thiago: Ancelotti handed Thiago his debut in the March friendlies, coming off the bench to score in Brazilian's win against Croatia. The Brentford striker scored 22 Premier League goals, second only behind Erling Haaland.

Morocco a Tricky Opener in Group C

Brazil start their campaign in New Jersey with their most difficult opponent, Morocco. Haiti are next up in Philadelphia before ending against Scotland in Miami.

June 13 Morocco MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford
June 19 Haiti Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia
June 24 Scotland Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens

Topping Group C will see the Seleção meet the Group F runners-up in Houston, likely the Netherlands or Sweden.

Brazil would then return to New Jersey and Miami where England are possible quarter-final opponents. A semi-final clash against Argentina, Portugal or Colombia is on the cards in Atlanta.

Top Five in the Betting Odds

Brazil are always in the running to win the World Cup and 2026 is no different. Carlo Ancelotti's side can be backed around 8/1 alongside Argentina.

Vinicius Jr Getting Attention

Vinicius Jr leads the top team goalscorer market. He has the capability to go on a scoring spree but has not been prolific at international level.

Raphinha scored five goals in the qualifiers, no other player bagging more than two. Neymar's recent injury puts his involvement into doubt.

Matheus Cunha and Igor Thiago could be set to play plenty of minutes which makes them intriguing options.

Verdict

Brazil are blessed with two elite centre-backs, a midfield with over 200 caps and formidable forwards.

If Carlo Ancelotti can work his magic and find the right formula, there is no reason they can't go all the way. A quarter-final appearance should be the minimum for Ancelotti's side.

Igor Thiago is in line to get the job up front and score multiple goals in the group stage. It could be profitable to fade Vinicius Jr, Raphinha and Neymar in the goalscorer markets.
