France were tagged massive favorites in their EuroVolley 2026 premiere against Switzerland and won 3-0, but had to work hard to achieve this, with two sets being won by a two-point difference.

Their performances kept improving as the tournament went on, claiming three more straight victories against Turkey 3-0, Latvia 3-1 and, most recently, Germany 3-0 to clinch a spot in the playoffs and probably first place in the group.

Les Bleus finished 4th at the previous European Championship in 2023, losing to Italy 3-0 in the semifinals, then also getting beaten by Slovenia 3-2 in the bronze medal decider.

Romania Riding High After Stunning Turkey

After getting stunned in the first match by Latvia, losing 3-1, the Tricolors justified their role as favorites and defeated Switzerland in four sets.

They put up a great fight against heavily favored Germany on Saturday, recovering from a two-set deficit to force a tiebreaker, but lost there 15-13 (3-2 in sets).

Carried by the home crowd, Romania caused one of the biggest upsets in the tournament two days ago by taking down Turkey 3-1, which was a massive step in the playoff race.
