Poland Maintaining Perfect Run
Poland have been the most dominant force in Group F, claiming five wins in five appearances and already taking a huge step toward advancing to the final tournament in Qatar next year.
After beating Austria and the Netherlands, the Poles were heavily challenged by Latvia in the third round, claiming a narrow 84-82 victory in Riga, which came mostly thanks to great control of the paint, finishing with a 41-23 rebounding advantage.
They then hosted Latvia a couple of days later, had a phenomenal first half and built an 18-point lead before ultimately claiming a convincing 92-72 victory to extend their winning streak. Jordan Loyd was named man of the match, scoring 21 points.
On Friday, Poland had no problems extending their winning streak, beating minnows Austria 123-77 on the road, shooting 62% from the field.
Netherlands Likely to Get Through
The Netherlands have been inconsistent in both playing windows so far, starting the campaign by defeating a weakened Latvia side 86-78 in Riga, but couldn't build on that result and suffered an 85-83 home defeat to Poland.
The third round saw them paired against the biggest underdog in the group, Austria, and they claimed an 81-71 victory in Wien, with Keye van der Vuurst dominating the floor with 25 points. All they needed to advance was another win against the same opponent at home, but they shockingly lost 88-87 due to poor defending.
On Friday, the Netherlands were shoulder to shoulder with Latvia all the way until the last three minutes, missing key shots and losing this important encounter 72-69. van der Vuurst was the top scorer once again with 23 points.
