Aurora Gaming are billed as firm favourites to defeat The MongolZ, which, considering their recent form, makes a lot of sense.

Aurora Gaming have been ramping up of late and enter PGL Masters Bucharest as a dark horse to win it all, whereas The MongolZ have not shown much this season, only recently finding some success in lesser events.

Qualitatively, Aurora Gaming are the superior team, and given the form they’re in, Aurora should be expected to win.

Aurora Gaming Are Ramping Up

Aurora Gaming travel to Romania following a few strong showings in bigger events. They placed second in StarLadder StarSeries, third in ESL Pro League Season 24, and the Thunderpick World Championship.

While Aurora have failed to win a single event this year, they’ve been competitive at the highest level, and especially in the recent month, indicating strong form and quality.

This alone makes Aurora Gaming one of the dark horses to make a run for the trophy in Bucharest, even though Aurora still have to prove that they can consistently trouble tier-1 teams.

The MongolZ Have More to Prove

The MongolZ have not been hugely successful this season, but have recently made some noise, with a gold medal from 1win Private Club #2.

It was a lesser event, which did not feature many big names. Still, the field was relatively competitive, and MongolZ showed some good things, beating Alliance, magic, PRIVATE, BIG, and PARIVISION in the grand finals. That's very promising and could signal good things to come.

However, even though MongolZ have shown some signs of life, they still have a lot more to prove.

Verdict

Aurora Gaming v The MongolZ

The MongolZ have recently claimed a tournament trophy at 1win Private Club #2, where they showed good form and even bested PARIVISION in the grand final. It was an inspiring performance, yet also MongolZ’s first notable tournament run in months.

Aurora Gaming, on the other hand, have been posting great results in bigger events, and have claimed a podium finish in the last three tournament endeavours. There’s a good reason why Aurora are favoured.
