Ukraine host Spain in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday. Ukraine are having a tough run of luck with Spain set to capitalise in Kiev and take control of Group 4.

Ukraine Form


Ukraine qualified for the UEFA European Championship in style. They won six of their eight matches with two draws, finishing ahead of Portugal in Group B.

Andriy Shevchenko’s side are in poor form in 2020 however, losing their last three matches. They won 2-1 against Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League before a heavy 4-0 defeat in Spain.

Ukraine were well beaten in Madrid, trailing 3-0 after 32 minutes and managing only 30% possession and four shots. 

It got worse against France in a friendly last week. The 7-1 defeat in Paris saw Viktor Tsygankov score a consolation, the team largely changed with players missing due to injury and coronavirus.

Ukraine returned home in the UEFA Nations League and lost 2-1 against Germany. Ruslan Malinovskiy’s 74th minute penalty got his nation back in the game but Germany held on.

Ukraine still have huge injury problems and key players missing with Covid-19. Goalkeeper and captain Andriy Pyatov has earned 95 caps but is unavailable after testing positive for coronavirus. 

With Andriy Lunin also out, so Heorhii Bushchan should continue in goal. Defensive midfielder Taras Stepanenko also tested positive. 

Mykola Matvienko, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Yevhen Konoplyanka and Junior Moraes are injured. Atalanta winger Ruslan Malinovskiy is suspended but Marlos came off the bench against Germany.

Spain Form


Spain qualified for the European Championship by finishing five points ahead of Sweden at the top of Group F. They beat Malta 7-0 and Romania 5-0 in their final two matches.

La Roja began the UEFA Nations League with a 1-1 draw against Germany in Stuttgart. Luis Enrique’s side responded with a 4-0 win against Ukraine. Sergio Ramos (2), Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres on target.

Spain met Portugal in an international friendly with the match ending 0-0 in Lisbon. They got back to Nations League action with a 1-0 victory against Switzerland in Madrid, Mikel Oyarzabal scoring an early winner.

Dani Carvajal is injured with Sergi Roberto and Jesús Navas options at right-back. Centre-back Diego Llorente has pulled out of the squad with a muscle injury.

Midfielder Thiago is in quarantine but Fabian Ruiz is available. Sergio Busquets could make way for Rodri in the holding midfield role.

Mikel Oyarzabal could continue up front, Adama Traoré hoping to impress after making his international debut in Portugal.
